Insurance Cancellation

I think I would like to sell the TZR soon to gain funds towards getting
another bike. There are two problems to this plan that I can see.

The ZZR is starting to sound a little rough, and if I keep the TZR, I have a
spare bike waiting to be used in case the engine decides to blow up on the
    ZZR.
Also, I've just (in the last week of August) renewed the insurance at around
    £260 for TPO.

If I cancel the policy now, what kind of amount am I likely to get back out
of the £260, if anything at all?

    TIA

If that is the case, isn't the other zzr engine any good?
You should get your premium back pro-rata

    Premium for 365 days = £260
    Premium for 30 days = £22
    Less admin fee
    Expect around £180 to £200

    Cheers.

I figure, if I sell the TZR, and get some of the insurance back, I could
have around £1700 within the next four weeks. Then lend a bit off parents if
it's over, and for insurance, and jobs a good 'un.

of an NC30, but don't like the idea of the whinging gear driven cams. From
what I've been reading, the CBR's are more reliable, and easier to work on
than the NC30's, but the VFR's have better parts availability.

Can you comment on parts availability?

The only way to find out is to ask them. They'll say they'll give you
back 10 of the 12 months you paid for, minus admin costs.

So, that'll be ~216 quid, minus about 50 quid depending on how nice your
lot are. I reckon if you see more than about 160 you're onto a good
one. Last time I had to amend my policy (and back again) I didn't get
    anywhere near "pro-rata" refund.

It might be worth asking them if you can transfer the policy to the new
    bike.

We were going to try this when I started riding the ZZR, but it is a 125cc
    specific policy. :-(

Bollocks you do, you get back a lot less than that.

Ins is for a year, but they stack up all the costs 1st. IME a cancleation
can cost aleast 6 months insurance

OK, it's not quite that bad. I've just picked a random old ins. policy up,
from Highway Insurance, and it runs like this:

    Up to ...
    7 days - 85%
    14 days - 80%
    1 month - 75%
    2 months - 60%
    3 months - 50%
    4 months - 35%
    6 months - 25%
    8 months - 10%

After 8 months you get nowt.

I've only once cancelled a policy. Every other time I've
    swapped bikes on the policy.

I once canceled a policy and got so ripped off I have never wanted to do
    it again.

I now take the view that it is better to let it run and keep the NCD,
which even after you have lapsed the policy normally stays usable for
18-24 months after wards. Which is worth far more than a rip off refund
    in the meanwhilst.
