Looking to get my bike back on the road in the next month or so, have not
had bike insurance for a while as it's been sat in the garage, but it's got
to the stage where I am sick of being sat in traffic on the M6.

Does anyone have any recomendations for insurance quotes?

    It's for a '98 GSF1200

    Cheers

    | Get a copy of a bike magazine
    | Turn to all the insurers in the back
    | Phone them up and say 'I'd like an insurance quote please'.
    |
    | Just because someone on here got a good deal from 'Insurer X', doesn't
    mean
    | you will...there is no substitute for an hour on the phone. I've changed
    | insurer every year for the last 7....

Yes I understand that and shopping around is something I do, I always find
it's good to get opinions of others first as you never know what you may
    learn.

Ferger emerged from their own little world to say
http://www.thebikeinsurer.co.uk/ will save you time getting quotes from
several companies by fillling in just 1 form

Clueless newbie emerged from their own little world to say
Some bikes have those items as standard.

As Ferger stated, you'll probably get a better deal and a policy tailored
to your needs by phoning around. That website will at least filter out the
companies who are not going to give you a competitive quote.

My view on mods[1] is exhaust or engine.

    That's it.

[1] Not the scooter riding type, obviously.

Indeed. I mean why would you want to buy something to protect the
bodywork when you can damage it and claim?
I'm seriously tempted by a carbon race can I've seen on eBay.

Brand new and 50 quid less than the shop price.

I think I'll do the decent thing and phone my insurers to find out what,
if any it adds to the premium.

One of the inscos at the Ally Pally show told us that they were giving
a discount if you fitted crash bungs on sports bikes because it made
the cost of claims lower. It's a forward step as far as I'm concerned.

Is that the insco with the blue and green logo?

It would be worth finding out because if it /is/ Carole Nash then I'll
tell them about the crash bungs come renewal. If it isn't I won't
    bother.

  9. it isn't CN. its the peeps who shared a stand with R&G (who make the
crash bungs). IIRC I have a leaflet at home. it could be
    ebikeinsurance though.

R&Gs is what I have fitted. Top and bottom..

CN say the can is insurable but it depends what make it is as to what it
does to the premium. Sounds like a "I don't know" cop-out to me.

ebikeinsurance might be worth a visit it it won't be for a while and
it'll be the middle of summer at any rate.

Auntie Carole wasn't bothered about the R&Gs I have on the Gixer, they
weren't fussed about the Quill T3 legal can I have fitted either, nor
the AP brakes or any of the other bits and bobs that adorn my bike. All
they are interested in are performance mods, of which I have none.

    That's exactly my point.

    Mods = Exhaust and engine[1]

They did ask who my underwriter was because not all will insure a can
that's not legal for road use. Mine will.

[1] Things like Power Commanders aren't strictly engine, but they do
alter the way the engine works in a performance boosting way.

Auntie Carole doesn't seem to think so because it's road legal, which is
all that matters now I've declared it's on there. Apparently it can give
up to 8bhp more and stay quiet, which is why I chose it.

That's nice to know. I'm quite keen on the idea of a new exhaust In
the Zed and I'll get a lot more choice if I don't have to worry about
a few hp here and there.
