Insurance Write Off question?

I am insured with Swann, had an accident where I was not at fault and there
is approx $7000 to $7200 damage to my 2002 Blackbird. It is insured for
    $10500.

Will the motorcycle be repaired or written off? Has anyone had experience re
    this.

Is there a percentage of the insured value where they write off the vehicle?

    Thanks.

$15400 bike and $10500 for repairs cut down to $8000.
It's been since November and it's still being repaired but I get a
substantial saving through Swann so I'm staying.

Look at it this way, you have choice is to lose $6500 or $10000, which
    option do you take?

    It's possibly a repairer.
There's around 3.5 difference in those amounts, something the bike will not
make at auction. (IF the insurance would pay out, they'll be the new owner
and auction it through Fowles/ Pickles).
Most likely, the quote will be knocked down to around 5k or so by using some
2.hand parts (which is acceptable for a 5 y/o bike, check the fine print).
    If there's a 3.party (i.e. car-insuarance) involved, it could be a different
    ballgame.
Sometimes it comes down to how much rego is left, as any refund will be paid
to the insurer if the bike's written off...which will impact on their
    "credits"- column.
    cheers

We rolled a Corolla, insured for $15K, quoted at $8K, they wrote it off. Six
months later a used car dealer rang the office to ask for the service log
book. Told him where to go. I suspect the RAC assessor was making a very
    good living.

I understood the Spanglish, if not the reasoning.

If they think they can get more than $3300 (assuming $7200 damage)
    then they'll write it off.

Eg. $10500 payout - $3400 back from the wreck = $7100 cost to them as
    opposed to $7200

You wont know till they see it and the quotes. Sometimes they go to
huge lengths to repair badly banged up bikes.

Who cares; it's a Honda. You just chuck 'em away and get another one don't
    you?

Wow; so they're not charging quite as much to stick it to you?
Yep; like the bear joke you're just doing it for the butt-fucking.
The only thing worse than being arse-raped is being arse-raped slowly!

I figure I'm being arse raped regardless. Why pay a more for the same
    service?

Depends whether you're talking about in Australia or some bizarro world
    that hasn't invented recycling yet.

If my bike was off the road for that long being repaired I'd ask for a
    bigger discount. :)

Funny you should mention that number. The Melbourne assessor told me
that if they reduced the amount of the repairs by $700 and I accepted an
Yoshimura exhaust instead of a factory exhaust, Swann would repair my
ZX12R and not write it off. I told him I'd accept a $700 discount on my
repairs when I got my $700 discount on my premium.

Then they tried the arse raping thing but fortunately for me the tables
turned and they were the ones left bending over.

    Hi Al,
Can you please give me some details as I would love to save $700 on my bike
insurance. I'm currently paying $540 for full comp on the Norge.

    Theo
    I assume they pay rebates.
