After some absolutely ridiculous quotes for bike insurance can anybody point
    me to a 'reasonable' company?
Not sure what type of policy I can afford yet but probably f & T)
    Thanks for your time :)

Due to people crashing and then saying "it was stolen", fire and theft
cover will cost you the same as comprehensive.

How much cover costs will depend on your age, the amount of time you
have had a licence, if you have had a crash where anyone claimed in
the last 5 years, if the bike is garaged.

I was amazed to find that even though I've not had comp insurance for
quite a few years that because I've had a licence for a fair old
while, and haven't actually smashed anything up for a rather shorter
while, I was eligible for a 60% no claim bonus for life.

Which just shows how much ripoff money they have to play with....

No. It shows the insurance companies have twigged that people will pay just to see the little "Rating 1" on their paperwork. And
that the gross premium can be loaded so that the NCB discount means very little.

    Well, circumstances are thus:
Had a bike licence 15 yrs
    Over 35
Locked behind gates on patio (would sleep with it if I could)
Last claimed for car 4 yrs ago
$600 plus is best quote so far

Is a steering lock classed as an immobilizer?

    Suncorp / metway

There price is on a sliding scale of the price the bike is insured for. $9k
cover on a litre class bike is about $680ish for full comp

    duno if they do F & T..

    hope this helps

Insurance for my BMW's is about $200-$250 each for bikes with a value of
    about $10,000 each.

Those quotes probably arnt ridiculous, its just how they are.

shop around, you can often find a few cheaper than others,

    shannons
    arista
    qbe
    swann

seem to be the main ones this year.

Pretty much. They figure that if I haven't killed myself yet[1] and I'd
managed to keep things more or less together for a while that I would
almost certainly lose the bet I was laying with them.

But that someone who hadn't had that much experience of staying alive
and more or less in one piece and who had recently done the oh shit
dance was going to win the bet and cost them money.

So they give good odds to me (cos they figure they won't have to pay
out) and lousy odds to the punters they figure will win the bet.

Main difference between them and other bookies is that other bookies
pay up without complaint when your horse comes in.

And I am also over 35.

  19. I've had no problems with QBE, except for them wanting to convert me to
market value. Shannons got the sidecar insurance, much cheaper than QBE for
    agreed value.

I'm sure if you ask around you can find a disgruntled customer of every
insurance company. Just choose the company that offers you the cheapest
premium and hope that you never have to deal with the insurance company
    for any reason.
