    Hi people,
Having just passed my CBT I have been given a Suzuki RG80 by a friend.
Bloody nice of them, not exactly fantastic but it was free, so who cares :).
Anyways, I cant get the bloody thing insured, I have phoned absolutley
everybody in the yellow pages and because it has been brough over from
Germany, no-one will insure it because it is not on their system. Does
anyone have any suggestions as to who I can try or if indeed this bike has a
UK name that might be on their system?

    TIA,
    Andrew

Unlikey, as it's not an official UK model. Manufacturers insurance
schemes can be a bit funny about stuff like that.

However, Auntie Carrol should be able to help - they sorted cheap
insurance on an imported cage I owned a couple of years back.

If it's old enough one of the classic crowd will be able to insure
it. Two out of the three bikes in my .sig are imports, hardly anyone
knows what they are but I still managed to insure them for
    NotVeryMuchMoney.

Thanks guys. I will try Auntie Carole again, Im pretty sure she was the
first I tried, but another chance cant hurt. Timo, any chance of telling me
what company insure your import for "NotVeryMuchMoney"? Think there might
be something in that, but I'm too bloody thick to work it out

    Thanks!

Probably the least likely insurers in the world... It ain't official so they
    wont touch it.

You tried Bennetts. I take it? They normally have ebvery bike listed...

That'll be Lynbrook Insurance (a broker somewhere Oop North). Pretty
relaxed bunch, charged me 110 quid for the Cosaro and the Bimota.

They've probably worked out that they're unlikely to move out of my
bloody garage if I don't have any keys for them...

Yup, Bennets, unfortuneatley dont want to know. Didnt think getting
insurance for a bike would be so bloody hard, if only my friend "could
remember" which compan they had it insured with things would be a hell of a
lot easier. (Of course means they didnt have it insured...)

After checking out their website it would seem that I wont give them a shot
tomorrow. There too "relaxed" to be open on a Saturday :( In fact they are
so relaxed they dont even work as many hours as me, why do companies like
this insist on working 9-5:30, when that is the hours the majority of the UK
works? (I'm needing a rant about this now, getting totally pissed off, just
wanna go out on the damn bike!!!)

Don't know if it will work, but it might be worth getting hold of a copy of
streetfigthers magazine or similar and see what insurance companies are
listed in there. They should be able to deal with one off's?

Not neccessarily true. The nice lady I spoke to at Honda Cover, a couple
of years back, told me that nearly half of their new business was non-UK
    bikes.

Thanks for helping. I have got back onto Carole Nash this morning, and
they have decided they can insure it! Bit annoying that I cant haggle with
different companys, but what more do I want.

    Thanks,
    Andrew
