The jury in the case of the cyclists who were killed on an icy road has
blamed (amongst other things) the driver's "inappropriate driving" in
    the conditions.

No one seems to have questioned the wisdom of a group of cyclists being
on the road in icy conditions.

It seems to be politically incorrect to ever blame a cyclist for being
    in the wrong.

The inquest has returned a 'narrative verdict'. I think that's legalese for
    'it was an accident'.

I wonder how much the inquest has cost and the effect that its had on those
that had to give evidence - especially the chap whose decision it was not to
    grit the road.

There's a dead child involved - 'nuff said.

Funny how the phrase 'failures by North Wales Police' turns up in yet
    another news story though.

Sorry, I started reading it and then saw "Anger over Polish breast
montage" in the 'most emailed' link so got a bit distracted:

"German politicians have condemned a computer generated photo of
Poland's leaders sucking the German Chancellor Angela Merkel's bare
    breasts."

If this loon, instead of ploughing into a group of cyclists out for a run,
had ploughed into a group of motorcyclists out for a run, would you be
saying 'oh, but the motorcyclists are to blame - they shouldn't have been
    on the road'?

Those of us who go out on the roads without a ton of steel armour around us
ought to stick together at least a bit - we're all equally vulnerable.

Thinking about it, there are no practical barriers, time any bicycle used on
the road had to wear a small rear number plate. They should pay a road tax
and carry 3rd party liability insurance. Helmets should deffo be compulsory.
Traffic violations, pavements/lights etc should carry the same financial
    penalty as other vehicles.

I think the law should be waived for really slow, perfectly controlled

The ice wasn't the motorists fault, more tyre tread doesn't help on ice, his
speed was not excessive on the road, how would he know ice was around.
Anyone could have been caught out. I feel sympathy for the cyclists and the
    driver.

I don't think motorcycle couriers ride too much differently.

Next time anyone calls for a bike courier, that's why your package
    gets delivered so quickly.

Oh, and multistorey carpark downhilling is hilarious fun.

  18. Well he did lose control of the vehicle so yes, it was excessive.
The ice he had to scrape off his windscreen might just have been a bit
    of a giveaway.
Anyone could have been caught out? Yeah, anyone who couldn't give a
**** about anyone else's safety could have been.

The fact that he (according to his own testimony) had to spend five
minutes scraping ice off his car before he got into it was possibly a
small clue that there might be ice around.
But everyone else that drove round teh corner managed to do it without
losing control so badly they bounced off teh wall on teh other side
and ricocheted across teh road twice.
