In what way "enjoyable"? Why do you think cyclists get labelled "red-
    light-jumping, Lycra-wearing twats"? Answer: red-light-jumping, Lycra-
wearing twats like those in the video. Along with "I'm a CYCLIST, not
just someone who rides a bike", primary-position-at-all-costs-never-
mind-common-courtesy types, of whom there seem to be rather a number
    on this NG...

He spent five fucking minutes scraping it off his windscreen. He said so in
evidence. D'oh! There's ice on my windscreen. What does that tell me about
    the road surface?
Anyone stupid enough not to realise that if water freezes on his windscreen
it's likely frozen on the road, too. Does that include you?

Cool vid. I'm not sure I could ride like that any more, but we used to
have fun sprinting across London dodging cars and buses.

    Fucking arseholes.
I have nearly collected so meany of those twats over the bonnet of the
    car whilst driving in London.

They are pretty much at the top of my most hated other road users list.

Simon Brooke () gurgled happily, sounding much like
    they were saying :
Just a small detail, like, but the water vapour in the air will cause a
layer of frost - even quite a thick one - on a windscreen a LOT more often
than it'll cause any kind of significant reduction in friction on the road
    surface.

I presume this wasn't the first bend of the day he'd attempted to
negotiate, either? If every bit of road had been that slippery, I doubt
he'd have even managed to get the car moving from outside his house. He'd
probably have been on his arse trying to clean the 'screen.

    Quite so.

Not to mention that if it was so clearly icy, it was a little
irresponsible to cycle in a large group on a road with traffic on it,
    no?

Which (despite the inevitable x-posting and pointless 'no *you* are!'
stuff) was kind of the point.

If it was (or should have been) obvious to the car driver that the road
was in a hazardous condition, then it should have been at *least* as
obvious to the cyclists. And yet, there's no mention of this in the
    verdict.

It's considered good form here to snip sigs.
Eh? As in, well, enjoyable. Try Google.
    I know why /some/ do.

You seem to have issues. You also seem to be under the impression that
I might be a red-light jumping Lycra-wearing-twat too. Err, well, come
to think of it, I do have a pair of Lycra cycle shorts somewhere. But
I don't habitually jump red lights. Even on a bicycle, of which I have
two. Ok, fair cop, two out of three ain't bad.
Actually, I was just thinking this very thing this morning. But only
because one chap on a bicycle mildly inconvenienced me personally. I'm
sure the marks will polish out. Sometimes though, I think that they do
have a point. Road courtesy cuts both ways.

This sort of thing is not normally a problem because on most days I'd
be on one of those nasty dangerous anti-social motor-bicycle type
things but today I had to go to an offsite meeting, so I though I'd
not bother with all the bike gear and take the evil diesel-burning
    baby-murdering one-and-three-quarter-tonne four-wheel-drive
    planet-killer instead.

I fear I'm not expressing my point well (no change there, then...)
What I'm *trying* to say, is that *if* it was clearly dangerous to be
out driving, then it could be argued that the cyclists could be said to
have been unwise to be on the road at all.

I would argue that it was *not* clearly unsafe to be out and about. I'd
file this one under "shit happens". But, no. Someone has to be "to
    blame", hence the narrative verdict.

Or even a pedestrian unwise to be on the pavement? Presumably no
pavement along the road in this case, but if there was the car could
possibly have ended up on it and mown down anyone walking. Even someone
    wearing crampons.
One can only wonder what clues there were to the iciness of the road
which might have alerted a more conscientious driver to the danger of
skidding. Was it an isolated patch of 'black ice' or had he got away
with other slides before the incident? What lead the coroner to say "The
evidence shows classic signs that Robert Harris was driving without due
care and attention and to his credit he admitted his responsibility in
    going too fast."?

The cyclists didn't lose control, didn't crash. They were crashed into.
That's a fact. The road was safe to use; it just wasn't safe to use at an
    unreasonable speed for the conditions.

Just like any other road at any other time.
Why should there be? What would you say to someone who wrote:

"The motorcyclist was using the road on a fine summers day when the artic
driven by a drunken fourteen-year-old joy rider went over the top of him.
This was clearly the motorcyclists fault as he shouldn't have been on the
    road during the school holidays"

Who knows? It's interesting to note that the same news report says "The
cyclists had set out on a 60-mile trip between Great Orme and Llanrwst,
in what they believed was fine weather."

Now, the cyclists believed the weather was fine. And they're out in the
open air. And yet, a car driver (in a heated cabin) is supposed to have
been able to detect that things were a bit iffy in the ice department.
As to the driver "going too fast", this refers to one recorded comment
from the driver where he stated that he was "very possibly" going too
fast. Given that he skidded on black ice, it's easy to conclude that he
was "going too fast" for the conditions. The question is *could and
    should he have known that?*

If we accept the evidence that the cyclists believed the weather was
fine, why should the same not be true of the car driver?

And the driver could tell that his speed was 'unreasonable' because...?

(Hint: The CPS, not noted for their reticence in these matters, decided
    not to prosecute).
I'd say "Well done, have the 'Non-sequitur of the Year Award'".

  20. God yes.

If you-on-a-ZX10R passed you-in-a-soggy-Saab on one wheel whilst
    you-in-a-soggy-Saab was overtaking you-on-a-pushbike, forcing
you-in-a-soggy-Saab to pass quite close to you-on-a-pushbike,
    you-on-a-pushbike would probably think "What a ****!".

Meanwhile you-on-foot would be thinking "Cor, look at the arse on that!"
(the other yous were too busy to notice the fit burd on the other
    pavement).
