Where points are passed between states it's whatever the points are in the state you got booked. So if you get nailed in NSW on a double points weekend at 30K over then you will cop 6 points, even though as a Victorian you don't have that many points associated with the same offence. I don't know for sure whether SA/Vic swap points, it's certainly true that Tasmania opted out because Vic and NSW wanted them to throw too many dollars into the kitty for the privilege. JL
I copped a hefty fine in SA, when I lived in Vic, but I left for Tas before being notified of any points loss. I've heard nothing about it since then (it was 35kmh over), which is just as well because I fell for a couple of sucker-punches as soon as we got here, and I was on thin ice before that. Vic doesn't seem to have notified Tas. Insurance companies never even blinked when I gave them the details. They did hit me with an extra 0 excess on my wife's car though, even though I've only had two speeding fines in 37 years in a car. I scarcely ever drive my wife's car, except to find out whether there's any grinding noises, or wheel-wobble at 25kmh, or identify that nasty rattle as being an unshut boot, etc.
