Bonners and A N Other are heading over.

Any interest?
It would be last minute Hotel/B&B/Homestay, a last minute call to Ash for
the Scout Hut, or last resort.... Camping.
Ferry is £160-170 return

Yep - boat booked, digs booked, good weather booked, Enfield ( stop
tittering ) all ready and willing.

 

I shall be loafing on a beach in Sardinia.

What dates are the actual races? And what's it like for getting a
decent hotel booking during this period?

Only Jude would quite like to go to the island again, as that's where
her family's from, and I've never been, so we might think about doing
a trip that combines some of the MGP period with a few days when the
roads and everything would all be open.

Seems like we could get there from Basel in about three hours, via
LCY, so it could be doable.

Yeah, I know. Last year's dates weren't much use to me.

Any recommendations? I know less than SFA about the place - the
airport's at, or close to Douglas, I assume, but is that the hub of
everything else as well?

you could fly Basel to liverpool, pick up a hire car and get the ferry
across.

To what gain? I suppose it'd work out slightly cheaper that way, but
it'd take a fair bit longer, I imagine. Anyway, I haven't run the idea
past Jude yet... and the decent hotels are all booked up...

Actuallym it seems I could get the flights for a mere 35 quid each,
and we'd be able to get the Basel-LCY sector on air miles. Hmmm.

Indeed; although, as you possibly realise, cost is really not a major
factor in the decision. Most convenient and comfortable is what we'd
go for.

But I can't find a hotel with availability, except one in Port Erin
(http://www.porterinhotels.com/hotels/royal/main.shtml), which seems
to be miles away - if I'm going to convince Jude of this it has to be
somewhere nice, so I'm really not looking at cheapo B&Bs or guest
houses.
