Nice to see the news finally seeping out from Gaza, when even
'Palestinians' are recognising that the Hamas caused the conflict, and
that Tsahal went to extraordinary lengths to protect the lives of those
    trying to kill them.

'Since the end of the IDF operation in Gaza (18 Jan 2009), 75,249 tons
of aid and 5,264,300 liters of fuel have been delivered to the Gaza
Strip' (Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs)

Oh, sorry ... did you say something?

    I thought it was good.

    Couple of points:

It was bang into with any build up as to why the place was a seething
mass of discontent. Only one quick ref to the Shah being re-instated
    following a failed coup.

My father would come back from work in a pretty poor state sometimes
as a member of his local staff had "disappeared". Often they would be
returned but sometimes, never seen again.

Poor J Carter really didn't seem to understand too much about
    anything.

One dictator follows another and it was interesting to see the
nepotism was still well represented in the new regime.

They didn't really cover whether the Shah returned any of his acquired
billions or not. I got the impression the assets returned were just
the run of the mill type.

Sadly they have every reason to be paranoid...

I suspect the blood will be flowing next week, at the front and on the
    home front.

  4. I'm often in Egypt and find the people I've met wonderful, genuine and
generous. This has been on dive boats, in small villages used as a dive
base or small restaurants that I've return to time after time.

In what ever 'metropolis' I've stayed in, there would be an above
average level of 'sharks' who would rip you off and steal from you if
they could get away with it.

My one 'interesting' contact with an Imam(?) (the hotel desk said he was
a holy man from Saudi) was in the Helnan Marina, Naama Bay. His three
infant girls were locked in the hotel room next to ours with their
mother all day. He would take one girl at a time to the beach to paddle
in the sea. In the evening he would take his wife out dressed in the
full black tent. Then in the evening he would go out on his own.

When he was on the beach on his own fondling his crotch, watching the
fit Russian girls, or taking his wife out or on his own in the evening,
the noise in his room would be ear splitting.

No problem for us, we were out, but when going early to bed to get up at
3am, to dive the Thistlegorm this is a problem. So I phoned the hotel
    desk. The noise was stopped.

A couple of days latter I was leaving my room, when he came to his door,
stood there and bellowed at me. I turned round faced him gave him one of
my drop dead stares and raised my right hand in the air fist closed with
my forefinger pointing to God and continued to stare.

I had a bigger beard than he did *and* it was white. He sort of
dissolved and backed into his room and shut the door.

Talking to locals on my dive trips I had often been asked if I was a
holy man of high standing in my country because I was 'old' and had a
large white beard. This seemed to work on him.

The curious thing about Arabs is that most I've ever met on an
individual level have been 'nice', but the notion of respect (and the
concept itself) seems to be completely absent from their lexicon. A lot
of my pupils speak elementary Arabic as they're of Moroccan/Algerian/
Tunisian origin and I've asked them if they know the word in Arabic
('kavod' in Hebrew), but they don't.

  7. He's trolling, of course. He doesn't know anything about Arab
culture. Anyone who does, knows that respect is a very big deal.

    Quite.

Still, you have to smile (if nothing else) at Blaney's sense of humour
(as well as The Clique's breathtaking hypocrisy). France has Europe's
largest Arab population, and I've been here permanently for twelve
years, and on and off for something like forty years.

Blaney scores a defence job, spends a fortnight in Dubai, and he's the
    group Arabophile.

    *snort*

    What a stupid bastard.
