I've knocked one up for people to use. As long as I don't see it being
    hacked, it'll stay up.

    The server name is: irc.rosbif.org
    Port: 6667
    Password: ukrm

I'll be tweaking it over the next few days, but nothing major.

Have fun for those that want to use it.

Let me know if there's anything missing, wrong, etc.

And so the new IRC network starts...

Cab, not going in for a sex change operation soon are you?

Cause I wasn't planning on it.

Heh no. I only knocked it up to see how easy and quick it was. It's much more
fiddly than other servers (apache or postfix for example) to set up.

As it goes, when the servers were all up and running and in competition with
each other, I rarley got involved. Not my thing, see. As such, I'll not
be policing the server (I'll be surprised if I use it).

My only concern is that some fucker tries to hack into it. If that happens,
then it'll come down faster than knickers on a whore.

Right, I understood you to this point. I'm easy with it. It'll mean
that you have less stress on your server and more importantly, the
network. How should it be configured?
This is the bit that I didn't understand [1]. :)

[1] This reminds me of a conversation I had recently, with the daughter
of a friend in the US. She kept using teenage speak (y'know, "U"
instead of "You", "pls" instead of "Please", etc). Whilst I understood
it, I couldn't bloody write it (or bring myself to write it).

Give me a few days to
1/ Remember how ircd-hybrid used to be configured
    and
2/ figure out how they've completely reorganised the config files.
    Heh.

kline = "kill line", a line in a config file (temporary or permanent)
that bans a user from logging into the servers.

Old joke referring to when kira/jasmine had her "not quite on planet
earth" phase and used to kline people for saying ****, or anything else
    that annoyed her.

Crafty buggers in the latest version (7.x). There's a line that'll stop
the server from running which you'll need to search for and delete.
I'll try to figure out where it is and will drop you a line.
Ah, I see. I think people are big enough and ugly enough to ignore or
block those they don't want to talk to. I'm not a netkop.

Bwaahahahaa, that been in there for ages!

In the Ubunto package they've already commented it out for you.

2/3rds the way down /etc/ircd-hybrid/ircd.conf in mine.
Indeed, which is why I never do that kind of thing.

Share the channel operator status out to people in there you know and
they'll self regulate and kick out cunts.

The IRC server is on the same host that the web server runs on.

Which is why me, Beelzebub, scraggy, Eiron and fluffycat have
    successfully used it.
    Is the problem...

    <tweeks>

    Should be ok now.

I may install ircd on my server and attempt to merge with yours. Will
you be gentle with me while I piss about, frag[1]?

[1] I haven't even *used* irc until today so there will be some wibbling.

    Heh, I'll be gentle.

I think we'll all have to use the same ircd server, and I'm using
ircd-hybrid which is one of the default "preconfigured" choices with
Ubuntu, so I'd guess that'd be a good one for us to get linked together.

Aye. Got that installed. Now to the nitty-gritty of configuration.
Pointers? (not chapter and verse as I am googling furiously)
