Well that link points to a thread about Daytona Bike Week,
which I have been to, but I've not done any Iron Butt events,
of which you can get better info here:
    www.ironbutt.com

Did you actually mean Iron Butt or Bike Week?
For an Iron Butt event, I'd use very, very comfy tourer,
    such as a Gold Wing.

While I was at Daytona I hired a Harley Sportster for
a few days and while I was pootling around on that, got
chatting to local guy who lent me his unused[1] 650
Nighthawk for the remainder of the fortnight. Which was
    nice )

[1] He'd just bought a Harley Fat Boy.

Course it never fucking occurred to you to actually read the thread that
your nice compact link takes us to is it? Chances are you would have
got a clue or two from there.

And what is all that bollox about being world-wide? Ironbutt is all
about a fast crossing from east to west (or west to east I dunno which)
of the widest bit of merkania. It has **** all to do with anything
outside of that, in fact anything else is just a cheap imitation of the
    real thing.

I've done a number of 1000 mile days:
    - Venice to Huddersfield. 1982. Z750e
    - John O'Groats > Lands End > Gloucester. 1984. GPz750 turbo
    - Mt Isa (Qld, Aus) to Katherine (NT, Aus). 1989. FJ1100
    - Adelaide (SA, Aus) to Sydney (NSW, Aus). 1989. FJ1100
    - Florence to Cheltenham. 2001. GSX-R 1000.

I'm not in a hurry to do any more.

You are kidding right. I have never heard the tale told so well. The
drama, the intrigue, the costume, the very clever little twist at the
end. Utter fucking brilliance it is, a work of sheer genius.

Don't think Milton Keynes -> Basel is anywhere near 1000 miles.

Klaatu let forth with a mighty belch and uttered :

Done a (close to ) 1,000 mile day carting documents between Nottingham,
London and Southampton when couriering[1]. That was a big earning day!

Did it on the XJ650. If I were to do the Iron Butt, I'd choose a Divvy 900
or a GTR1000 as I know the GTR is capable of being ridden for extended
periods and the only bloke I know who had a Divvy reckoned it was a sofa
and capable of being ridden all day.

Some Brit won it a few years ago on a Guzzi 1000.

    [1] Nottm - Grantham - Nottm - Wembley - Nottm - City - Nottm - Southampton
    - Nottm - Sheffield - Home. Don't know the actual mileage.
20 hour day and the only ones that didn't pay were home - Nottm and
Sheffield - Home. Nice big spiv for taking the Southampton plus a
backhander when I returned with the signed docs.

It is if you go via the route we took.

Which could be summed up as the wrong route.

Ahh ok, yes it could be. It seemed like 1000, but I'll strike it off
    the list.

I think the once was enough anyhow.
