    That hardly answers the question.

  6. "The reason for this discrepancy is that motorbike engines are still far
less advanced in terms of fuel efficiency than petrol-powered cars."

What a load of utter shit. It's been decades since bikes were as bad as
average car engines in fuel efficiency.

Variable, but not often funny, imo.

For anything but a small sensible bike, definitely.

A quick fag-packet calculation using the formula...

(vehicle mass * distance travelled) / fuel consumed

....my Pug 306 comes out at a metric of around 7800 compared with just
1500 for the 7R. I'll concede that the bike's usually moving much faster
than the car, but doubt that a reduction in speed would shave 4/5ths off
    its fuel consumption.

I suspect most people would compare using MPG, maybe with engine size
thrown in. In which case bikes are indeed crap. However if you use
performance figures, bikes win by a mile. I wonder how many 180mph cars
    do 40mpg.

Yersh - I assumed the reader would make that leap :p
    There's a big difference between a 150mph car & a 180mph car. Plus if
you take all performance figures into account, including say 0-150
times, I suspect the difference would be even greater. How many cars
can meet or better the 0-150 of a ZX10/gixer thou? Only a few
    massively-engined gas-guzzling supercars I suspect.

Agreed. For what they are lugging about with the power they produce their
fuel figures are quite dire. Unless of course you're Andy Fordham.

  13. Fuel efficiency has only one meaning; power produced per unit of fuel
consumed, so your 'bhp/gallon' is nearest. The journalist obviously
doesn't have a clue what FE actually means and used the term to make it
sound as if he does, for then he goes rattling on about pollutants,
which is an entirely different aspect.
Not if you ride them at the same speeds and acceleration as the average
    car.

Try it sometime - I bet you get frustrated as ****, I know I did.
