hi. i am thinking of getting a motorbike. i want to get a learner firs
and then a yamaha YZF-R1. i plan to use it to travel to london once
week. the journey is about 30 miles from my home. mostly on th
motorway. this 30 mile journey will it be boring (just going along
straight line?). i also plan to travel through europe on my holiday.
also how safe is motorbiking? that's an important question for me. als
what are the negative aspects for riding a bike? will i get hot an
stuffy? will my helmet steam up? please tell me all the negativ
    aspects. thanks

Thinking is not enough, you have to *believe*.

Nice plan although I suggest a new shift key may not be entirely out of
    order.

An R1? How the iggerent make us chuckle.

Boring? How the iggerent make us chuckle.

You will end up smelling of wee.

    In the summer yes.

    In the winter yes.

    There aren't any.

Here is my advice as a new biker who passed his test in October and got
    a Bandit 600 for a 60 mile a day commute.

Scrap the learner bike idea, it's a waste of money. Do a DAS course and
pass in a week. Much more cost-effective then you can go out and buy
your R1 and ride it like a poof until you get used to it.

You will most probably find the fun aspects of biking is the ridiculous
speed and acceleration it offers. You might find the 30 mile commute a
bit boring but as you are only doing it once a week I hope you will be
putting the money you spent on a bike to better use than that, when you
really can have some fun. Nipping through the traffic will be immensely
satisfying though. As I am sure other people will tell you once you are
a biker it opens a whole new world of enjoyment as far as motoring is
    concerned.

You have asked a fairly stupid question about safety. I will not even
    attempt to answer that one.

Having ridden throughout the winter, my biggest enemy as a biker so far
has been the COLD. I have alleviated this by wearing plenty of clothes
and buying a pair of £55 gloves.

    following:
All R1 riders are poofs, regardless of how they ride.

We do wonder. See newbies are a constant source of frustration if they
don't pay attention to what they have been taught, like fucking not off
and reading the ukrm cbt and or the ukrm ffaq and not paying particular
attention to the bit regarding posting styles and how unbelievably
fucking cuntishly inconsiderate it is to reply to a Usenet post and not
quote at least some of the post you are replying to.

<thinks back to last glove purchase>
I could have bought 11 pairs of perfectly good winter gloves for that
money but I didn't, I bought one pair and spent the rest on
    recreational drugs. Petrol mostly.

    LOL!

    You are kidding right.

    1) R1 insurance for a new rider without at least 2 years bike NCB will
    be astronomical.

    2) Getting on an R1 straight after DAS will be suicide.

Using a bike may make your ride home more interesting.

You may well get hot in summer.

You may well get so cold in winter that you can't think properly and
your willy and wingers falls off, especially when you get wet.

Bikes are as safe as you like to think they are.

    What do you call astronomical?

I got brand new GSXR1000 and Ducati 999 quotes (fully comprehensive) of
just over a grand the day after my test - wasn't going to buy one, just
thought I'd see what they would charge.

There are plenty of kids paying more that TPFT on their 400/600
    sportsbikes.

I'm amazed that you got a quote at all. You must be older than God.

IME, InsCos want a minimum of two years experience riding a motorcycle
of similar spec before they'll even consider cover. Which
    company(ies) did quote you?

Bennetts / ebikeinsurance (one of those two as it was an online quote).
Got a cheaper deal with MCE on the z750s I bought in the end.

35, garage, nice area, married, kid, reasonable job, no previous bike
insurance, no points, 1 car claim 3 years ago (but protected NCB), just
    passed DAS.

Make a name up and have a play with the online quotes.
