Is the FAQ dead?

  1. I assume that both of your potential hosters will know how, but if not I
    have a copy I can email someone. It's 18MB but I expect it'll compress
    quite well.

Heh. IIRC the site contained more than just plain HTML, didn't it?
Because if it is only plain HTML and doesn't use any CMS, I'll just suck
down the site tonight for later use.

  4. Indeed - probably indicative of the registrars capabilities.
If I can help or advise, I certainly will. Just hope it doesn't
involve airfreight out of the US, cos right now, that's going to hurt.

I hope you're referring to wget and not your hosts file ...

The site was created with a CMS which created plain html (and images).

darsy lost the CMS code so I've been just updating it as plain html.

Right, that's some steak pie I have to wipe off the monitor. In that
case, using a utility like wget should allow us to get a working site
downloaded and put up "somewhere else" fairly quickly.

Well part of it would be a container full of shite (bikes, possibly a
car, all 25 years old or older).

Another one was for a guy on one of the MX5 forums who is trying to get
a fibreglass front bumper from the UK to the US. So that'll be a massive
box with lots of air in it, mainly.

    Not after the next beer.

I started this thread because I tried to point someone at the FAQ only
to notice it had disappeared. Adie is probably the only person who's got
an idea of what it is supposed to look like.

I've got a copy of the FAQ's which are here:

    http://www.rosbif.org/ukrm/faq

But the links need updating and tidying up (as they still point to
archive.org). I've not got the whole website though.

You'll be lucky, the site is completely down. Unless you pull it from
    archive.org

yep. that and the main ukrm.net site.

I did the whole of the re-write but that was five years ago. I've been
meaning to do a complete recheck of the site but haven't had the
    time/tuits.

  18. No it isn't, it just doesn't have a DNS entry. With a hosts file entry it
works fine and as I mentioned I have already pulled down a copy so I don't
expect Timo will have any trouble.

For the site to be 'down' i.e. irretrievable, I'd imagine that the
server on which it was hosted would have been either destroyed, or wiped
    of its htdocs root.

Having no DNS entry does not equate to being 'irretrievable'.
