    always so stinky?

Rode across to Liverpool today to pick up a new triple clamp and
ignition switch for my daughters ZZR250.

The heat in the tunnel had to be up around 40C and the pollutions was so
bad my eyes were watering - visibility was /way/ down. It was like being
in a smog in the UK in the early sixties. Just to make it worse on the
outbound leg the traffic was stop-go all the way through.

I had to be the only bike in there.

  2. Pretty much... it's the diesel from all the container trucks which
pass through there on their way to and from Port Botany. When I was a
courier in the summer of 2001/2002, just after M5 East opened, I'd
usually commute through there and it was routine to get home with a
Zorro mask of soot around my eyes.

Feckin' toxic. Avoid the place in peak hour if possible.

NB: "Peak hour" covers the period from ~6:30am to ~7:30pm.

There was talk of signs warning motorcyclists not to use the tunnel.

It's OK if the traffic's light enough for you to do 50-60 through it,
any slower and it's downright dangerous I think.

I had my first go at the Lane Cove Tunnel, last Friday.

By half way through the air was _very_ second hand, and the last third
    was stinky hot too. :-(

I really wouldn't have wanted to be there in slow moving traffic.

    regards,
