    ....that has twin silencers?

It's jus that a bike I've been seeing around, and even for a long time
(cough) thought was a twin, on closer inspection appears to be a GSX-R
of some sort. Well, I saw "GSX<something>" on the seat hump the other
    day, anyway.

Grey - sorry - platinum, it is.

I generally either see it as I approach from behind, in which case,
regardless of how fast it was going before, it takes off like a
scalded cat as I approach, or I see it in my mirrors.

It did overtake me once or twice when I was on the Quota but I didn't
    get a good view side-on.

I'm just curious as to what it was.

Yes. The 750/1100s from around 1990.
Can't be bothered to check the models and dates.

Hayabusa has twin cans and some sort of GSX on it somewhere.

Not interested in the models - just wanted to know if it could be a
gixxer and if not, WTF it was, and surprised that any modern sports
    four had twin silencers.

I did wonder, but if it is then they have a lot more performance than
    the write-ups let on.

Admittedly on the couple of occasions I've caught up from behind and
he's taken off, I was caught on the hop in the wrong gear.

He is *just* quicker than me - I have managed to keep with him more
through the luck of traffic that anything, and I'm not the fastest
    rider out there.

Probably a Hyabusa. They have the legend "GSX1300R" on the tailpiece,
but the 1300 bit is not so easy to see on some colours.

Could be - Platy suggested the same. Certainly the lettering colour
seemed to change after the "GSX" on the tail.

I was worried that my TL had been burned off by a Teapot!

There's a case to be made for dressing up a well screwed together Gixxer in
GSX600F bodywork, and go out hunting ineptly-piloted R1s. Increase in
    ritual suicide among power rangers...

I used to dream of doing that with a car - say a well sorted Escort on
A2s with bog standard body work. In fact, I still like the idea.

  15. Friend of mine had a GSX600F with a 750 then an 1100 lump in. Quite a
    hoot.

You'll be even more surprised when you see the latest ZX10R then. I
honestly think it looks like something Honda would do and as such is
    inexcusable.

Pip Luscher fumbled, fiddled and fingered:
My GSXR1100 had twin silencers I think, although you cannot tell from
    these shots.

Only big Suzuki I ever had, piss poor finish, ground clearance,
electrics & reliability. My kid bro has just bought a low mileage 600
SRAD and is already having hassles with the electrics.

    <smug mode> I *told* him to get a Kawasaki </SM>

    <g>

    <big snip>

The important thing for me would be not so much straight-line grunt as
cornering ability - so well-sorted suspension and sticky tyres.

Not one of those. It was definitely more modern with a single oval-ish
headlight and a sculpted tailpiece - when Platy & Lozzo suggested a
Hayabusa, I realised it had to be one of those.
Yep. So far the TL has stainless fasteners that seize, a radiator that
literally rotted to the core and severely stone-chipped plastics.
Never a problem with the TL.
Not a problem so far <touches wood, throws lucky rabbit's foot over
left shoulder while not walking on any cracks>
I've actually never owned a Kwak - The times I've been looking to buy
a bike they either didn't make what I wanted, or I could get something
    similar for less.
