Is this just me, or does this look suspicious to others?

    Item # 5825195655

Having a squint around ebay at GPS's earlier, I noticed this item with about
8 minutes to run. I thought, "now that's not a lot of money, I'll have me
that!" and sticks me bid on.
I was immediately outbid, so I didn't go any further and forgot about it.
Come back to the 'pooter, and find I've won it?! Strange methinks, as I was
outbid! Checked my emails and it appears that with only a minute or so to
go, the winning bid was retracted and this put me as the wining bid. Shirley
that can't be right? If I'm outbid, I can't be the highest bidder!
I then check the feedback of the seller and find some real strange activity!
I then check some of the sellers feedbackers, feedback (phew!) and find that
    that's just as suspicious.

Anyway, it appears, that I have got to pay for this, and it comes, no less
    from sunny China!

Note has been sent to ebay about this, I'll wait and see, but I think I'll
    pass and not buy it
As I was outbid, I bought something similar elsewhere before I was declared
    the highest bidder, Guv, honest!

Wouldn't touch it with a 100ft barge pole.
VERY dodgy feedback with several "No longer an registered Ebay user"
    responses.
    Stinks of a Scam.

Recently reported a similar problem with 3 carat Diamonds for
    sale........only £125 each.
Genuine they was............................... Hmmmmmmmmmmmm ..... Like

    My feelings zacktly.

Problem being, I put the bid on in good faith, before [1] checking the
    feedback.
Since I was outbid immediately, I gave it no further thought, until it came
back and bit me in the arse!

[1] stupid cnut that I am, I never normally bid without checking!

I agree. Wouldn't touch it with a bargepole. The fedback has a lot of users
who are "NO LONGER REGISTERED USERS". tHE FEEDBACK OF THE USERS WHO HAVE
LEFT FEEDBACK ALSO CONTAINS A LOT OF USERS WHO ARE "NO LONGER REGISTERED
USERS" (excuse caps lock key there). The previous auctions seem to just contain
lots of question marks in the description (same for the auctions of those
    who have left feedback).

Seems very fishy to me - I'd certainly email EBay and tell them:

    1) You were outbid, so bought something else in the meantime.
    2) The seller looks extremely suspicious, can they investigate.

I got my SO a very nice F650 recently - you have to use your brain,
apply some judgement, set your limit and stick to it.

I also made it clear to the seller that as I would be riding it 200
miles home for her if I didn't like it "round the block" I would walk
away & risk bad feedback - his response to that was good too. Didn't
want a deposit sending - just took me at my word about paying after I'd
    seen it.

A bit of luck also comes into it, same as any private sale. You could
get stiffed in any purchase, not just Ebay.

For the record I am a confirmed cynic and furthermore the views
expressed above may not be my views tomorrow.

Although being real stones you will have to pay real prices so that is

Ebay has its place and buying vehicles [1], obsolete parts, odd records
and books is one but as a surrogate shop it's pretty shit.

As an aside I'm after a Le Mans for breaking, know of any?

[1] Not so good for selling IMO.

That's a scam. Way to cheap and all the names in the feedback are
randomly generated usernames. Plus half of them are NARU'd.

  15. I'm coming round to this POV. For parts, yes - but for complete
vehicles, no. I've bought some damn nice stuff for silly money and
really nice bikes I've sold have sold for disappointing sums.

Not completely but I'd have chosen a slightly better way of saying caveat
    emptor.

As others have said ebay requires a certain amount of care, especially as
it now seems to be home for more and more low quality shit and becomes
less useful as time goes by.

This is a very clever variation of the shill bidder. You bid for an item,
I use my disposable/instant account to bid a million quid. Obviously win,
*but* I have bumped your bid up to the maximum.
Cancel or reject the shill bid and robert is your parents sibling!

Offer 'genuine' reason to withdraw as outbid so purchased item 'elsewhere'
    item no longer required.

Should avoid all the usual eBay garbage dump..
