Quarter to eleven on a Sunday night, and ukrm's not stuffed full of
    posts moaning about Top Gear.

    How odd.

I quite enjoyed this one, and suspect I'm not alone.

I watched an M. R. James ghost story on the television and suspect that
    I'm not alone.
I'll have to leave the light on when I go to bed....

  4. It was certainly better than their recent 'normal' episodes, but
nowhere near as good as their other specials.

Most amusing to seem them suffering hypoxemia to the point of '****
    this, let's turn around'.

I doubt they'll ever top the Vietnam special.

I'llbet it's just added value to old Rangies, just as i was looking to
    fucking buy one.

    The scenery was certainly spectacular.

  8. That Bolivian Road of Death was another 'parp' moment.

    Indeed.

It's like they concentrated all their best efforts on this one episode
at the expense of all the others in the series so far.
That was actually the closest it came to being obviously staged. Given
the close-up capera shots of the wheel perilously close to the edge,
it seemed cleasr to me that we weren't watching 'real' footage of the
    event.

But never mind, it wasn't so obvious as has become the norm in their
other shows, so I'm not complaining.

Feet, there was a shot displaying 17064.

  11. Nah, that was the bit when Hammond's Land Cruiser rolled down the slope.

Oh yeah. But then they hardly even pretended that that bit was real.

I was looking at that too, but in fact the "m" display was total
    ascent, not current altitude.

Still looks like it could be feet to me. Total ascent since a 'reset' to
    indicate the current climb?

Fair enough. Still higher than I have ever been on foot.

Yeah, then the BBC could fill the slot with another reality TV show. I
really have no idea why people whinge about Top Gear being staged, but
surely it's still better than 99% of the shite on TV?

OIC. Yes, it's in feet. I wasn't paying attention to that, just the
    label that said 'Totl Ascent'.

In fact, as Pete pointed out, they're both in feet, but the left hand
number was clearly labelled as total ascent.

Eh? Oh, it was a bank holiday in the UK then? I took the day off as
holiday and went skiing instead. Just about recovered from last week's
flu now so we've started pushing into some of the more adventurous
off-piste again. Still not done the Laub yet this season - maybe later
this week, as there's new snow falling...
