I'll go out on a limb, and recommend Virgin Media.

I have a 10Mbs line, and achieve 8-9.5Mbs when ever I test it.

They also do a 50Mbs line.

Obviously useless if you live in the sticks.

FWIW, same here. And never has it been capped or have I had a warning.

their cable service is good, especially if you want to "buy telly" and
    can negotiate a bundled deal
Their Virgin National service, via a BT line is rubbish. They traffic
shape during the peak evening period so that watching iplayer is
    impossible.

I'm reasonably happy with Bethere. They tried very hard to fix the
dropped connection problem. Eventually, upping the SNR to compensate for
the very shit BT line[1] which impact speed but reduces dropouts.
Overall, the consistent speed is welcome, even if they get nowhere near
the advertised max bandwidth. 2-3 meg is typical.

[1] the line has been tested several times and is "within spec" even
though telephone calls are barely audible because of the noise.

Moved across from Demon to Be a couple of months back

The only annoying thing is that I didn't change earlier

Well, if we're starting again, I've never had one, so:

It would be, if the two were linked in a congratulatory fashion.
