There would be little point in them putting the cameras close
together, and from our point of view the further apart the better.

Average speed cameras just seem like a really odd idea for A roads. I
mean, they work fine on motorways where you have long stretches with the
same speed limit and you don't have to slow down for corners or other
traffic. But on a 60mph A road it's very very difficult to average above
    60. Who are they hoping to catch?

It seems like a huge waste of money for such a small target.

YTC they don't read M/C numberplates.

How many fucking brain dead spastics riding sprotbikes do you see in ASC
sections travelling at a speedo indicated 50mph? I see them in droves.
I always want to shunt them up the numberplate (cough) and scream
    caaaaaaant at them.

The road from Stranraer to Ayr has a section of them. It is intensely
    annoying in a car.

Ah, I see. It's my definition of "A road" which is at fault. Down here
an A road could be defined as "200m stretches of unrestricted
carriageway delineated by villages with 30mph limits, corners, tractors,
caravans, and fools driving at 40mph"

And unless someone is going to point me at the relevant site[1], why
would a litrebike (on any capacity for that matter) worry about forward
    facing speed averaging cameras ?

[1] One that shows they now actually have rear facing speed averaging
cameras, cos all I can find is reports[2] of "on their way"

[2] On the MCN site, so that must be true then.

I tend to slow down when riding through average speed limit sections.
The traffic density increases and speed reduces, so it seems the
    sensible thing to do.

There's also a strong sense of "if we take the piss, they'll clam down
    on it eventually".

I slow down. Somewhat. Because the traffic slows and I don't want to
slot some m-way worker. But I still make decent progress.
In the car II try and maintain a satnav 56mph
Can we have the Real Ogden back please.

Online applications rock. But the new Banks and Pratchett novels have
been delivered so an afternoon in the bath with a book beckons.

The main road between Belfast and Bangor has them now. For those unfamiliar
with it, this is an excitingly dangerous road that should taken at maximum
speed. For a significant part of its length, it's two lanes in either
direction, no central divider, curves, sharp bends, dips and crests - a
wonderful road for the brave and stupid. And now they've spoiled it.

I read a Pratchett book on holiday. I'd never read one before, but I'd
just finished a book, P had finished the Pratchett and even though I'd
read the usual suspects' views on here, I thought "why not?".

Let's just say I won't be rushing out to buy another.

It goes past many large expensive properties. People with influence. Go
    figure.

Curiously nobody has ever been prosecuted ;o\

Even more curiously nobody has blown the feckers up.
