I know it all worked out inthe end, but why were you carrying all that
bollocks around with you in the first place?
    Ouch.

  9. In my experience if you can produce documents on the spot when stopped
by Plod, it certainly saves having to trail to the police station for a
producer, and possibly avoids a nicking.

In my experience, *none* of my five nickings would have been avoided
by flourishing an MOT certificate in a helpful manner.

So you've got a wallet full of MOTs, speed criminal? That don't impress me
    much.

You miss my point. How hard would it be to adapt them to ANPR cameras?
Then they can do speed, tax, MOT and insurance all in one swell foop.

They'll have to find the £76bn it'll cost to integrate the system in a
    wholly unworkable way first.
Oh yes. But atm we're policed by speed cameras, and they're only interested
in one thing. Which is another reason I don't carry around full docco for
all my vehicles every time I take a trundle to the shops.

I was thinking a bit about this last night when I saw an add showing
that DVLA now automaticall issue a fine if you don't renew your road
tax. In Switzerland you get a couple or reminders, then if you still
haven't paid the police will be round to take your plates away. Seems
    perfectly sensible to me.

Same would be true, I think, of failure to get your car re-tested.
This is supposed to be every two years, but in practice they don't
seem to bother - I've not had to do so since the Volvo's been on Swiss
plates, which is now nearly four years. Apparently they're very
    overworked at the test centre...

I'd confidently predict that the UK will catch up with this in the
    next year or two.

Seems eminently fair. If all the bollocks in road traffic law could be
repealed, speed limits scrapped and replaced with regularly proven
competence etc., I wouldn't mind if vehicles were kept in a manner more
    akin to firearms.
Sadly, very sadly, the former won't happen and the latter will.
