I refitted the battery carrier, which was another exercise in teaching
the squirrels a few new swear words. Battery back in (fresh off the
Accumate) and eh? Why is the pilot light in the headlight on?

Turn the ignition in the other direction and phew, it's off. Only now
    the rear light is on...

Looks like the previous bodger^restorer - whom we shall call shortacable
    - had had a go at the electrics as well. This is not boding well.

Anyway, set the idle mixture screws roughly where I thought they should
be and not where shortacable thought the should be, ignition on, petrol
    tap on, press the button.

That'll be because someone forgot to hook up the main power cable to the
starter motor then. Battery partially out, cable hooked up, battery back
    in.

    Choke off again, press button.

    *Oioioioioioi*

Better, so it doesn't start with the choke off like it did when I picked
it up. So, choke partially on and ...

    *OioioBrrrmmmmmmmmmm*

****, I had forgotten how loud it is. But as WUN said when we picked it
up, all you can hear is music. Once it was warmed up a little and idled
fine without the choke - albeit shaking the rear mudguard in a way that
shouts "stress fracture" in a rather loud way - I started tweaking the
idle mixture. Looks like I pretty much got the lhs one spot on without
even having the bike running, but as I moved to the RHS the engine died
    with a massive backfire.

Turns out I had run of petrol...

Anyway, so that'll be new choke and throttle cables, replacing the
grub screws that are missing from the carbs, fixing the above wiring
problem and get the shite paintjob sorted.

Hmmm. Let's see if I can get this thing going properly in time for
    Chimay.
