About that figure. The atmosphere is actually very thin compared to
    the size of the Earth.

And the time savings eroded tremendously over the years, both because
normal airliners got quicker and longer-range, and the additional
security and check-in times that were getting worse even back then.

When Concorde was first introduced, a three and a half hour flight,
with the ability to leave central London just an hour before
departure, was a considerable saving over the 8-9 hours of some of its
competitors on the LHR-JFK route. 4.5 hours much better than 10.

Fast forward to the present day, you need to allow three hours from
central London, and normal flights takle around 7.5. 6.5 nothing like
    so much better than 10.5.

  4. And I take the bait and spend too long giving him line & verse
references quotes from official docs and he goes quiet.

    Gets me every time.

    Don't mention TSR2.

We still get heat on bright but cloudy days. We just don't get too many
cloudy days in the summer though. Currently a rather unpleasant 40 C
cooling to about 32ish in the house at night. Even in Winter it's pretty
sunny even when it gets coldish.

Re. the html. Looks fine in my browser. I've seen many sites that don't.
It's beautifully indented and easy to read. No complaints here.

Not necessarily. We could keep them in 20km high towers made of
nanotubes of carbon and feed them GM soya beans.

  9. That particular one holds a LOT of water.
What a punch in the face for the Technological Kings that a has-been
pair of European wanker shed countries built that and trumped anything
they were doing in the same field.

Pah. No ambition. Four poxy laws, and you put your hands up and admit

    Loopholes man! We need loopholes.

go and talk to the Catholics.

All you need is one hamster. It needs to be as big as the sun, on
    fire, and in outer space.

    Job done.

Forget hamsters, if you're not going to put people in stasis, then they'll
need some form of exercise during the long journey. Assuming that there
will always be people who can't get laid, they'll need a treadmill.

    Speaking of Snake Oil.

It is actually real. I've seen it in chemists shops and it may, possibly
in some cases where criteria are met in the most specific manner etc.

  14. Concorde B was designed to be much larger and to not need afterburners
for take off or in the trans-sonic region.
It's target was the Pacific and loop around routes missing populated
    areas.
Been reading about it for a couple of years now. One hell of achievement
    if they can do it.
Now there is an achievable worth while project for cheap renewable
    energy.
In one of the books I have on solar technology from the time I was
designing my last house, it started.

"More energy in the form of sunlight falls on the Australian Northern
Territories every year than man has used in total since he evolved on
this planet. There isn't an energy shortage. We just keep using the
    wrong sort."

That arguement has about as much validity as who can drill the
smallest hole in a bit of steel in that both are totally pointless.

Willy waving over an inefficient aircraft has **** all to commend it.

  19. But walking from the on airport car park at Heathrow to catch the
shuttle bus, Concorde was the only aircraft that people would stop and
admire taking off, including the bus driver.
