    Howdy,

Last fall I got a call from Mikey asking if I was interested in owning
any of the IT175's in their west virginia fleet. At least one had
    been
mine once and I'd expressed interest in having one again to vintage
cross country. He said bring $200 and come get the last one
    left.

I brought it home without really looking at it beyond, yep,
it's all there. Been sitting 14 years or so but ran when parked.

On inspection when I got it home - this one was mine! Telltale
drilled holes in various places and shifter/bashplate/airbox mods.

So this weekend I finally started tearing into it. One issue I think
I'll have is that I don't know if parts are available for these long
damn rear shock absorbers. Yamaha doesn't show any on their
fiches. Anybody out there know of a shop that could rebuild this
    and would have the parts?

On a side note, old crusty carbs are easily cleaned in an
ultrasonic cleaner with dilute simple green. Works wonders.
Make sure you have a decent ultrasonic device, it should blow
holes in aluminum foil in 10-15 seconds. Pansy chinese ones
don't work as good. My Chicago Power tools (Harbor Frieght)
chinese one works great and has a heater to warm the cleaning
    solution.

    Go fast. Take chances.

I need rebuild parts, not a complete shock.

I'm kind of bummed on HF. I bought a really pretty set of open-ends there, and
the first time I used one -- to loosen the oil drain bolt on the truck -- the
damn thing broke. I returned it for what I hoped was a better set, but I
    haven't used that one yet.

Fortunately we have a lot of good tools accumulated over the years, but if I
had to buy new ones I don't know what I'd get. I love Proto and Snap-On stuff
and old Craftsman stuff, but I wonder if the sets they sell at Costco are worth
    considering.

  6. Heh! You should check out the latest sleaze story from the British
Labour government. "You watched porn movies while I was out of town?
And charged them to my parliamentary allowances?" "Yes, dear^Wminister..."
