  1. They didn't have enough Uranium to make two bombs, because of the
monumental delays in producing the material. On paper, there was no way
it wasn't going to work, they thought.

You have to refine a shed load of yellowcake to get that much U-235. It
was a hugely inefficient design with 64kg on board, too damn right it
was going to go off! but very little converted.

The Pu they produced was heavily contaminated with Pu-240 which is why
they needed a large implosion device and it was the sphere of shaped
charges as much as anything that required testing in the Trinity shot.

    Indeed.

    <Grump Old Man Mode>
TV drama isn't up to much these days IMO. I really miss "Play For
Today". Some of them were shite, but there were many nuggets of gold
amongst the dross. Nothing but reality TV and 'talent' shows on these
    days.

Not GOMM at all. You're are, in fact, correct.

Particularly as Nepal is the only 'official' Hindu state in the world,

I read this article this morning. It aligns quite well with my views on
    Dan Brown's writing style.

    http://tinyurl.com/r6tye2

I can't see why it's so wrong to have an opinion that there is bad
writing and good writing and that Dan Brown represents the former not
the latter. But the strange thing is, the comments are full of people
defending Dan Brown and tearing the journalist who wrote it apart.

I think it's the difference between writing style and writing. I think
Dan Brown has a fantastic writing style, but his books, well plot I
    guess, are rubbish.

a perfect example of a book that has separated out its component parts of
dreary and tedious into a matte stippled effect.

If Michael finishes it before you've got it [1] I'll post it.
Hang on to it, I will get up north at some point.
I'd do you a list but I cba to hobble into the next room.
It's a brave move, one I should follow but I wimp out every time I try
and sort them. When the carpet is down in the library and the book
shelves are moved back in I'll try and impose some sort of
organisation. I liked Platy's description of the piles under the bed
'It's like a book Manhattan under there'

[1] Unlikely as I think it's ended up being packed for the house move.

I'm not surprised. You've probably managed to put her off for life.
Most I've sailed in[1] was a force 7, and that can be pretty
unpleasant even with enough experience not to be scared by it
(IYSWIM). On a small motor cruiser with little or no previous
experience, I'd imagine a F6 would be quite scary.

Oh, and you should only do it in warm water areas too.
Ahh, well, yes. These can be learnt, but I have to say I'm still
surprised about how crap some, even relatively experienced, skippers
are in this field. A normal yatch has a distinct disadvantage compared
with a motor boat, in that there's no water movemenet from the prop
going over the rudder, so initially the sideways kick from the prop
can be significant and you can't steer at all until you get a little
    speed going.

But even so, that's no excuse for the abortion that so many skippers
make of berthing stern- or bows-to in the mad. And as for going
    alongside...

[1] On a yatch, I mean, as opposed to my big ship days.

You can use the prop kick to your advantage, of course.

I think the problem most people have is in thinking it's going to be
    like parallel parking a car.
