It's a sort of purple colour

For values of customs preceded by the word "factory" yes, beautifully

  2. Call me iconoclastic, but I always thought Yamaha produced the
    cleanest-styled factory customs.

XS650. Original XV750. XV535. Oh, and the XS1100 Midnight Special.

I'll allow they dropped the occasional bollock, like the early XV1000
    with the gold plating.

The virago is lovely looking bike the 535 especially has the proportions
right but they *look* like a girls bike. Honda and Kwaker seem to
manage a bit more of the old macho chunkyness which is a little more
appealing to hooligans without adding any further comment about the
sexuality of the person riding it. With a virago you know they are at
the very least a closet. With a Kwak or a Honda you know that it would
    be unwise to ask.

Ex-fucking-scuse me! I'm right here, y'know! Does this look hermasexual in
    the slightest?

The watery January sunlight glinting off the chrome, front wheel turned away
in a jaunty, but shy come-and-get-me pose? Mudguards and engine covers
    painted in pearl white?

    ....Oh bollocks.

Well, at least I didn't have a choice of free bikes :)

Man you have spoilt it by adding that extra chrome, really you have.
Take it off and put the dirt back on.

I think the information you gave in the orginal post (the bit about it being
an XV Stratoliner) should give you a bit of a clue.
Ok, Kwaks are well known for producing bikes with "interesting" colours. Not
a lot unlike the Stratoliner colour. OBVIOUSLY it had to be a Kwak because
Yamaha don't do shite colours. Then again....

    So I'm still whooshed.

    Yeah, I can see that.
Duc's are made by Kwak, I thought everyone knew that.

One of these days I'll scroung a go on something like that, if only to
finally convince myself I hate them and put the murky idea of getting
one out of my head once and for all.

  10. Admit it, you're scared you'd like it and then it's just one short hop to a
    VRSCAW V-Rod.

Most HDs look like I made them in my shed(s) from pieces of old tractor and
bolts pinched from the Forth bridge but I think the VRSCs look quite
    wantable.

A very short hop - the VRSCAW is $85 cheaper than the Stratoliner S
(which is wot mine is. The 'S' probably stands for 'shiny', cause the S
is the one with all the chrome)
There are low mileage Street Rods going for around seven grand. They're
no good to me though, there's no way my wife's arse would fit on the
    back of one of them.

Anything with chrome on it just isn't going to like living here. I'm
    not the most dedicated cleaner.

Also the V-Rod would look nice if they got rid of those "things" either
side of the radiator. Mind you they'll ground out first so nature
should get rid of them in a couple of thousand miles.

You have a point. I was cleaning mine yesterday, and after an hour or
so began thinking 'do I really *need* all this sodding chrome?'
I've got mixed feelings about the V-Rod. Sometimes I think it looks
nice, other times I think it looks impractical and all wrong (never had
a go on one so looks are really all I can base an opinion on). I
thought it was nice that HD tried to build something that wasn't a piece
of farm machinery, but not really surprised that the average
tractor-loving HD customer didn't buy it.

I wanted one until I rode one; the handling was abysmal. There might
have been something wrong with the one I had but if there was it was
    nothing obvious

Performance was on a par with my Sportster [1] (albeit hoojnificantly
smoother), and handling even worse than my Sportster [2].

[1] OK, the engine's not quite as it came out of the factory
[2] OK, the running gear's not quite as it came out of the factory
