Sounded like a clear cut failing to give way - fault of the other driver -
from his description... I don't know whether running around after police
reports will make any difference to the outcome, or the speed at which
    insurance companies process claims.

If you've got comprehensive insurance, you don't waste your time fucking
around claiming off the other party yourself... you're paying your insurance
company to do all that shit for you... and let them do it after they fix your
bike or give you a cheque.

Firstly Josh, glad to hear you're ok. Any crash you walk away from is a good
one. A cliche but a good one. A mate at work has had a cast on his leg for
over two years, and now they're talking about taking it off. The leg that
is, not the cast. Experienced rider, just had bad luck one day on his
    TL1000.

I understand what you mean about the price of insurance. I wouldn't pay $3K
insurance for a $6K bike, but if my premium was that high I'd be riding
something else. I pay $500 for a $5K bike, but its my first bike. Jen owned
the Fizzer. Its a value judgement you have to make I guess, but a litre
Gixxer will only worsen that equation for you. The thing is, what if the
other party didn't have insurance at all? What if it was a "shit happens"
thing like a dog jumping out? Could you afford to just write off the Ninja
and replace it? I cringe at the thought!

    I wouldn't do it. Ymmv.

I got a $6K bike and the insurance co wants $390, sounds like a fair
deal to me. You just gotta chose a different bike :)

    Ash.

Bullshit. With age comes a reduced life expectancy.

Maturity is a concept I haven't quite grasped yet.

  10. Ambo's,Fire and Police were all there promptly.... it was peak hour
traffic...so seeing a car stopped doesnt make you think 'i wonder
why??'....although it will in future. I have the TIN from police. Report
says he turned across unbroken double white lines into my path.
I currently have a solicitor drafting up a letter of demand. For towing,
helmet, shoes and of course the bike.

  11. I have insurance to cover me when im not at fault and to cover anyone i hit.
Also fire and theft....for $700. Comprehensive would cost $3500. If nothing
happens in 2 years that is my fault i've almost paid more then the bike is
    worth for nothing.

  12. I'm 20. Insuring a 1998 ZX9. I have no rating because i've never had
comprehensive... (i used to live in the country where id ride an old peice
of crap bike worth $600...so only had TPPD)...plus i had a speeding fine 3
    years ago...
Add all that together and i had a range of comprehensive quotes ranging from
cheapest of $3570 to well over $5000 for $10G insurance.

  13. If he was uninsured, id have been covered if i got his details and
called police etc. But as for hitting a dog....i guess id have to hope that
dog had an owner i could sue for damages.
Meanwhile, what you say is logical and probably the best thing to do.
But i do like to ride a nice bike... So what is one to do?. This is the
first prang in 5 years of riding. And not my fault. Doesnt mean to say that
a dog or rabbit or anything could jump out at me around the next bend tho.
I was tending to think that the insurance for my 98 ZX9 would be similar
to say an 01 GSXR1000. Either way i will research... But for now i gotta
wait for my solicitor to shoot a letter off to the guy i hit and see what
    his response is.

Wouldn't matter what lines were there or not.. I think you'll find if he turns
across your path while you have right of way, he's at fault, even if the
    traffic is stopped.
Solicitor? I'll write you a letter for half what the solicitor charges. I
even got an insurance company to pay the cost of me hiring a Ducati to ride
down to the GP last year. If you google back a few weeks you'll find lots of
    letter of demand writing suggestions.

    Across double white lines?!!
I take it back; that's a bit harder to anticipate!
Yep, your solicitor should make sure you're looked after.
    Good luck....

I think it gets a bit grey if he claims the car ahead stopped and waved him
through and then you swerved around that car and hit him.
He's still at-fault but the percentage might be a bit less.

I'd still ring up your insurance and report it. (Unless you're worried
    about no-claim or something)

  19. I was on a side of the road with 2 lanes of traffic. i was in the left lane
whilst the right lane was at a standstill. A car in the right lane left a
gap for him to turn. Which is why i didnt see him, till he was in front of
    me.
