It's all so bloody tiresome.

In an attempt to cure the petrol drinking tramp's problems on Monday I
had the carbs off (again) to sort out the still sticking slides properly.

No great shakes, got all the float bowls off, nice and clean. Went to
remove the diaphragm caps and cheese screws meant I ended up with one
    sheared off.

Couldn't get a decent purchase so tacked another bolt to the stub with
the welder. Hey presto! Problem solved.

Except I hadn't noticed during the comedy set myself on fire routine the
spatter that has now written off the slide bore on one of the carbs.

Managed to score a replacement set - but they turn out to be from a P7
and are completely different (Keihan as opposed to Mikuni). They have a
push pull throttle and carb heaters. A new set of cables are £40 without
even thinking about the carb heating problems.

Can I get another set of Mikuni carbs for less than £120? Can I fucking
arse. GT 750s seem to now be on a par with BSA Goldstars for rarity
    value.

The Guzzi's 30 year old wiring loom is becoming more random so I'm not so
keen on doing Slovenia on that.

Incidentally, why do breakers have the shonkiest websites known to man?

Do you know what size Mikuni they are? The old Ducati SS and
Monsters both use 38mm Mikuni CV carbs that may be of some use?

  4. Um, I have a distinct recollection that your old GT750 is, in fact, a P7
model. Which means the ones you've been sent aren't.

    IIRC, it's a P5.

I had a long conversation with Alf's Kawasaki about model changes - P7
is, apparently, post 1991 or 1992 (I've already forgotten). The bike the
Keihans came off is a 1993 machine.

As luck would have it I have a guaranteed set of Mikunis off a running
bike coming from Doncaster £70. Part Finder turns up trumps.

If you need UR on that, I can pick them up and I should be seeing
Lozzo in the not too distant future...

I've got a set of Mikunis that would be fit (possibly). I'll bet they're the
same bodies too. BS-series off an XJ900.

I guess the £40 for the cables isn't looking too bad then.

And surely the carb heating is just a matter of some T pieces and
narrower pipe to divert some of the cooland round them?

Something like a drain from his catheter so not only does he avoid
stops but he stops his carbs freezing at the same time? Bargain.

To fit carbs I'm not sure are going to work? And I need a twist grip.

I've managed to pick up a guaranteed set of Mikunis, cheapest so far.
    Should be back in business.

The carb heaters are electric glow plug arrangements. Diverting coolant
would be an idea but as the problem is the coolant, cold air, I don't
think it'd be such a great idea.

Ah, I assumed you meant that the cables and heating were all that were
    needed.
Nice, sorted in the simplest way.
Ok. I did think that in the future if more problems crop up you would
then have carbs that had spares more readily available.

You should have made up a manifold and fitted a big old SU.

Anything will work better than non-existent coolant. I don't think
Frag knew that the GT750 is air cooled.
