Ooh, I didn't know you were on City of Vice. Must've been a bit of a
**** with all the dark candle-lit stuff.

I know blokes who've been on the bins for that long and never had a days
unemployment. Doesn't make them "Boss Hoss" though, does it?
Which is precisely what I said if you'd care to read properly.
I'm not even contemplating contemplating and I don't know where you get the
    idea I am.

Anyway you look at it, he wasn't as big a "star" as lots of other actors,
despite him being better than many who reached the "heights" of getting
their hands in the concrete. How many Oscars did he win btw, coz isn't that
    a measure of a film actors success/popularity/quality?

You seem to think that *I* don't rate him, [1] which is a poor assumption
    given my posts.

[1] Not that it makes any difference.

I think you're confusing "working" with "being employed". Just because
someone doesn't clock in every morning at 6 and leaves every evening at 5
    doesn't mean he's employed.
Being unemployed means you've got no work and can't *get* work. I doubt that
was the case with Mr Postlethwaite.

    (Thomas) said--I think
"Not a day unemployed"? He did ~3 movies/TV shows per year. Since
shooting rarely takes over a month for a movie, how can any actor say
they're not unemployed most of the year?

    Wayne Newton made 225 000$ a week

He said that was not why he was
    sucessful

Sucess was being able to take the
    whole month of May off

    That being said
I'm 12 times more sucessful than Wayne

That was a really enjoyable job.
Only for the poor bugger who had to do a H&S report every single time
    they were used.

And the stand by props people who had to keep replacing them for
continuity - which was often as they have an extra thick wick to make
the flame much bigger so they look 'normal' on screen, but it means they
    also burn down incredibly quickly.

I think it's a stretch to say unemployment means you can't get it.
I'm retired and unemployed, but that doesn't mean I can't get it.
I suspect what Mr Postlethwaite meant was that he never needed to look
for a job, not that he was employed every day for 35 years.

Do you honestly think he was employed every day for 35 years as an
    actor?
(If so, I've got a bridge to sell you.)

This bridge. Did it previously have a dead baby under it?
Only two owners from new? Always driven over carefully?

But we're not talking about his entire working history. That's a
    completely different subject.

"By his own words, over 30 years in the business and not a day
    unemployed, "
was the line from Mr Auvache that drew me into this discussion.

Ah, but there's a huge difference between being unemployed and going
on the dole, isn't there? I've been unemployed several times and only
gone on the dole once, ~40 years ago. It was such a humiliating pain
in the ass I decided never to do it again. So, I did what actors do,
make the money last between jobs until I found something else to do.
