It's been a while

  1. I'd like some advice on getting my '01 R1150R back on the road. It's
been locked in a dry wooden garage on the mainstand for about a year,
most of which the battery's been on an Optimate (all the electrics are
good with a bright headlamp, functioning indicators and horn)

I guess it wouldn't be a good idea to just press <go> as all the oil
galleries will be seriously dry. I don't expect anything to have seized
    though

So far my best idea is to top up the oil, remove the plugs, engage a
gear and rock/rotate the rear wheel to gently get things moving to
distribute some oil and then starting it (after disengaging the gear)

Would it be necessary to replace the fuel ?

Break disks are clean and showing no signs of rust

    Thanks in advance

    GM

Turn it over with the kill switch off until the oil pressure warning
    light goes out.

  5. It'll be fine
Try it and see. If it runs fine, then no.
    Jolly good.

  6. Most do, but not all. My Ducati doesn't, for example. Nor does my 400
    Four.

I don't do 'most'. None of mine do (those with starters at least). But
then they are almost exclusively SOBs from Italy. The one that isn't has
    Italian electrics.

I always use that strategy after a cartridge oil filter change on the
    Nordwests.

Probably a modern thing. For ultimate starter control, the Morini
Corsaro 1200 takes the price. Press starter button just once and wait
for the motor turn over until it catches. Or in the case of my mate's at
the TT last year. Wait, and wait, and... then splat, cough, and start
    over again.

I boggled at that because I first read it as '...after a cartridge
    start...'

    Ooh! Kaufmann cartridges.

I wonder whether the Norton would convert to them easily?

I first encountered the Coffman starter when I first read Elleston Trevor's
'The Flight of the Phoenix' as a yoof.

  15. Coffmann, surely?

I think that would be a super-cool thing (and probably essential) on any
    ShiteOldBritBike.

I first encountered it when I saw the film.

Actually, has anyone seen the remake?
