I'm scared of them, and I own one.

Only 200 miles to go before I can actually find out how fast it goes.

I used the ukrm standard running in procedure of 3-4k for 100 miles,
4-6 up to the first service then an extra 1k rpm per 100 miles until
1000 was showing then it was up to the limiter in top.

I always reckon that you're better to vary the revs as much as
possible when running in and being religious about what the factory
says makes that much harder to do.

I did the first 100 miles and then she did the next 350 or so before
the service. After that she took it up to about the 800 mile mark
before we went to France on the clique trip.

Dealer suggested up to 6k, don't take the piss, warm it up properly
and bring it back somewhere between 600-1000 miles. Sounded pretty
    sensible to me.

I don't think you can physically ride the thing below 4k rpm.

Yeah, mine said be gentle on the throttle and try not to go above 5k if
you can help it, which I think is a fairly reasonable approach.
    You can, but it's boring.

If the weather is good on Sunday afternoon I might be about running it
in, I'm thinking some of the twisty little back lanes round
staffordshire way might actually be slow enough as to not be totally
    boring.

That's been my approach. Twisty back lanes to work rather than the
motorway as I didn't think sitting at 5k rpm and 80 mph constantly was
    too good for it.

Helps scrubbing the tyres in as well as I'm cornering more.

Did you get the exhausts fitted? Sound is lovely.

I've also just stuck an Airblade double-bubble screen[1][2] on which
has made a nice difference. I can see the clocks and the wind is
better, but you're a short-arse so probably don't have as much of a
    problem.

    [1] Excellent, next-day, service from
    http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Biker-Parts-Direct . Highly recommended.
[2] For reference, it's exactly the same screen as an '06 ZX636.

Nope, they haven't arrived yet, so I'll get a call when they come in and
have agreed I can either take them away to fit myself or they'll swap
    them over at 1st service.
The standard screen isn't a huge problem, but it does slightly obscure
the top of the clocks, and I reckon once I'm allowed to use the throttle
it'll blow air just under my lid.
Take a photo at some point, I'd be interested to see how it looks.

I'm planning on taking some decent ones this weekend after I've given
    it a wash.

I bought a clear screen, but swiftly realised the standard one is a
light tint, so I may swop it. But it looks ok and you can see through
    it.

I may be an unsympathetic bastard (quiet at the back) but I give them
gentle treatment for 500 miles, get the service done, then nail them.
IIRC my 996 was on Knockhill with under 1000 miles. The Gixxer which
passed to Loz had 2k when I bought it, I changed the oil and took it to
the track. I'm never going to keep them for 50 or 100k miles so WTF.

I do make sure the engine is on plain mineral oil to the first proper
    service then switch to Synth.

Don't think it'll be ready for this french run though, but miracles can

Ah, well on the "what needs to be done" front there's good news.

I've decided to leave the left footpeg where it is, it would be nice to
have them both in the same position but I tried it like that and my
left leg hits the fairing all the time, which'd annoy me to hell. (one
more bonus for shorter legs I've found about about!)

Also on the right one its looking like a simple bent bar w two holes in
it will do for now, leaving an open timeframe for making a complete
    nice new bracket.
