It's done, it's legal and it's a holiday

  1. finished the final assembly of the lil ole 175 early this week and have
been putting around on it. what a bunch of fun this thing is; haven't
had so much fun going so slow in a long time. thing looks real good, the
suspension is nice and tight and it starts on the first kick with no
choke needed in 90 degree weather. frikkin' eggggzelent. the
pirelli siroc tires a perfect for this bike too; good grip on pavement
but enough of a knob pattern and depth to not worry in loose stuff. all
the paint and chromework really paid off, this thing gleams in the sun.
maybe i'll put up some pics later on.

ran the hoops the state of tejas puts you thru when you bring in a
vehicle from out of state, got the signatures as required and the lady
in the tax office didn't know what to make of the ebay print out when
she asked for the bill of sale. but, it's all good, got antique tags on
it today and it's now licensed and registered and legal to putter
anywhere it can get to. tax office lady said "if you sell it, you have
to return the antique tags" to which i reply very matter of factly,
"ma'am, this motorcycle is not for sale and it isn't going to be".

one other bit of joy, the 1930 Model A started right up last nite with
merely a charging of the battery, so two vehicles for the local July 4th
parade are up and ready to go. Interestingly, they (the A and the 175)
are both 6V electrical systems, the A using a postive ground.

Have a fun and safe holiday folks.

  3. There are now some pictures from the 175 rebuild as requested in
    alt.binaries.pictures.motorcyles

Can't say if the pictures do the bike justice or not, but at todays July
4th festival we had one person came up wondering where they could find
one of these bikes, they didn't like what was being built today either.
It drew all kinds of comments and look overs, even two 10 year old
boys stopped, looked at it went "Awesome!", maybe OCC isn't permeating
as far as we've feared. Perhaps these 30 year old Hondas are the next
wave of collectables now that the Euro bikes of that period have
accelerating values. I can tell you for certain this thing is an
absolute ball to putt around on, haven't had this much fun going slow in
a while and it hasn't drawn a disparaging look from anyone, it's quiet,
pretty and unobtrusive. "You meet the nicest people on a Honda" was
the slogan back then. Starts reliably on the first kick, too, must
remember to compliment the mechanic... <coff>.

I was able to see a few of them, but they were chopped and some didn't
come through. care to send them directly to me back channel?

and, again, who's that cute PoA in all those build photos?

I had trouble with most too, but i don't think it was bandwidth, my dear.

  7. either parts retention on the server or the newsreader wasn't assembling
the parts properly. it all came thru just dandy on supernews, even if a
bit large. i wanted it to look good!
thanks, it was a lot o fun, the photos don't do justice, #12 makes the
paint on the tank look blown out sunbleached and it's definitely not
    that way at all.
high maintainence, too, pity the boyfriends ;^D

Looked good to me. Even the smaller jpegs.
I dunno, didn't appear that way to me. It looked like a brand new bike,
right out of the crate. Must be my monitor.
<Gasp!> What boyfriends? A girl that smart, should leave the boys alone,
at least until she is 30! I have one of my own, so IKWITA!

I know you don't want to her this but even if you could, I doubt it would do
much good. The best you can hope for, is that you've instilled strong core
values in your kids and pray they draw upon that.
My daughter turns 30 this August. She's now having to start worrying about
her own daughter. Like Joe's dad kept reminding me, "You *pay* for your
raising." I've been passing on that little tidbit of wisdom to my daughter.
Funny thing is, her reaction to it, is about the same I mine.

    All the best,
