individual taxes on products. Tell me why they should? fuel taxes create
a heinous and inequitable social division. Don't pander to any
environmental argument. The only acceptable way to reduce emissions is
cheap clean alternative fuel for all.

The biofuel industry is living perilously. It is being seen as a dumping
ground for the Maize growing community and it could all turn to shit.
The industry needs to perfect the biological/catalyst technology to
break down cellulose into simple sugars.

Maize futures are a huge investment area right now, BTW.

It's being savaged by the environmentalists. The carbon gain is low due
to the intensive agriculture and it makes a very poor raw fuel stock.

I'm ubber pessimistic, I think biofuel is going to be a huuuge disaster
and is going to wreak environmental devastation in several parts of the
world. All the focus is on a quick buck from palm oil and sugar cane as
well as finding a home for the corn mountains.

The US and EU govmints are primarily to blame, the EU being the worst
offender. They have mandated a %age of biofuel by 2010 without any
thought to or control of the source/production.

Or petrol/electric hybrids, such as being produced by Lexus/Toyota?
We're considering the LX400h as a replacement for our Volvo and I'm
amazed at the fuel consumption figures - 35mpg combined, IIRC, for a
270bhp 3.3litre SUV. Pretty damned impressive. I've yet to drive on
though.

Ther ideal cage is probably a rechargeable electric vehicle with a small
turbine onboard. For now I agree the LX is looking pretty good, if your
prepared to drive a big wobbly 'ol barge.
