    Right. Let's have a go...

    1 US Gallon = 3.785 UK litres.

Price per litre at the moment = £0.85. So 1 US Gallon = £3.22

    Current exchange rate $1.90 = £1.

So, if I have this right, equivalent prices would be $6.12 per US Gallon, so
still more than double than we pay over here.

It's a balancing act but the net gain should be positive.

Well that remains to be seen. Performance is adequate, with sub 7
second 0-60, but road handling is something I've not yet had a chance
to decide about. Also I'm not sure about the constantly variable
    transmission.

Isn't it electrically motivated? i.e. no transmission required?

Oh never mind the LX/RX, I've just clocked the GS 450h

Not quite sure about that, TBH. It looks like there's still a
mechanical transmission to the front wheels as well as the electric
motor, but trolling through the website(s) hasn't given a completely
    clear picture.
It's the RX400h I was looking at (typo). The GS looks OK, I guess, but
it's just a boring saloon. And doesn't have the 4wd and loadcarrying
that I need for ski trips. If I didn't need that I'd be in a whole
    different marketplace.

Ah well here's hoping you get back to having that requirement.

I've been skiing with a dainese and subsequently knox full length back
protector since fucking up on my gixxer BTW. It's no inconvenience at
    all.

Ace () gurgled happily, sounding much like they were
    saying :
It's basically a bigger Toyota Pious - so there's a couple of planetary
gears that allow the power to split between engine, electric
    motor/generator and CVT/drivetrain.

Except it has an additional electric motor on the rear axle. But I
can't understand the diagram, I'm afraid. Can I take it that there is
    some mechanical drive as well?

Neither did I until I was told "don't expose your back to any more
    impacts please"

You miss the point. Riding a bike I expect(ed) that, at some point, I
might have an accident where my back could be damaged and therefore
would need protection. Such an eventuality doesn't figure in my world
    of skiing.

  17. Except that there's not enough growing area on the planet to produce the
necessary quantities of sugar cane or maize.

Brazil's orange production is being cut because farmers are being paid
more for growing sugarcane. Same goes for pineapple in Thailand.

Food crops are being reduced *now* to produce fuel for motor vehicles.

Which is as it should be. Let the pikeys starve.

  18. Um, I don't think that's entirely sensible. Well done.
