No. Never really saw the appeal of sitting outside when it gets cold.
Might get a conservatory built though, if I decide to stay here a
    while longer.
You'd be wrong. It's all detached houses and garages round here.

  2. I was at the funeral of a drinking friend of mine last week.
    Died age 44.
    That was shocker.

Look at it inversely: if you're having a good time sitting outside,
and it starts to get a little chilly, it's nice to have an extra
option other than having to go inside.
    beautiful views, I take it.

Mate of mine committed suicide just before Christmas. He was 34 IIRC.
Oddly that wasn't so much of a shock.

Only dangerous if you've got Taigs chucking petrol bombs, surely?

Not exactly, edge of town suburbia. That way if I squint I can
    pretend I'm her majesty's south.

you know, I've never actually seen someone through a petrol bomb. 1/2
bricks, thrown at riot police - sure - loads of times, and I used to
lie awake at night in my flat just behind the Ormeau bakery watching
tracers and mortars flying overhead through the Velux window, but
    never your actual petrol bomb.

erm, you're aware the term "Molotov Cocktail" was coined by the Finns
to actually mock Molotov, aren't you?

I went to look at a house, the other day. As I got near, I caught
myself thinking just that. Guess that means I'm ancient, now.

I read that as HeiL" first time through.

Anyway, though I grew up in NI during the 70s and 80s, I lived in
Bangor, which was relatively "trouble" free, apart from a lot of
racketeering, extortion and general sectarian bigotry. And when I
lived in Belfast a little later on, I mostly hung around the
university district (or near-ish, hence my living behind the Ormeau
bakery) and the fire-related stuff I witnessed was almost exclusively
11th night bonfires or the occasional burning Ulsterbus. Plenty of
gunfire, mind and one sort-of-close proximity to a bomb.

I had that experience frequently at the age of 17.

It was in the seventies in Milton Keynes, though.

clearly, BTW, I meant "throw". Though technically, the above sentence
is grammatically correct, though a little whimsical.

I used to be able to write, you know...

Converted farmhouse in the French Alps - we use bottled propane. We do
have a patio, but we don't heat it, even though it's currently under 80cm
    of snow.
