It's time to get a new(er) bike

Realistically the TOG tour is going to be the last outing for the ZXR.

The MOT runs out the last week in May (when I'm planning to be out the
country, still not sure whether to risk getting pulled on the way back
from the port) and it's got to the uneconomical to repair stage. [1]
To be fair it reached this a while back. But I love it.

    <makes another small sobbing noise>

What I ideally want is *my* bike only brand new.

In the absence of this I follow DanL's example of being open to
    suggestions.

    Must be;

    black
    small
    light
    ideally an inline 4
capable of being abused whilst carrying on working
cheap (given I've had to replace the car in the last month)

So anyone got a black ZXR400 in better condition than mine tucked away
    somewhere? Or anything suitable?

[1] The exhaust that was put on 4 years back has holed, the chain and
clutch cable are at the end of their life, [2] the fork seals are
shagged, plus all the other bits and bobs. That's before you get to
the fairings - which are OK like that, means I don't worry about
    dropping it (again).

[2] Looks sternly at Champ and Burnt.

I think you should ignore all of the above, and see how cheaply you
can get an SV650 for, they're easily as quick as your 400, and happy
to take abuse til the cows come home.

AOL, predictably. I'm not taking it to the match tonight, which is a shame
otherwise you could have had a go.

Then you could have had a ride on the bike.

She tried mine for size, it's too tall and mine's one of the lower
    models.

just what I was thinking. Just noticed that my Carole Nash policy
gives me breakdown insurance in Europe, which is nice.

It's never actually broken down you know. Had to come back from
Halla's place on a lorry because the chain was shagged after riding
over the rock, but that wasn't a break down.

It just has a little sulk, then a tantrum, then gets on with things.
    Much like its owner.

Wanna 1987 NC24? Its not black but thats easily fixed. Its not an
inline 4 which isnt easily fixed. It is cheap - £500 as it is , which
means the fork seals need replacing (genuine honda supplied). It was a
cat d write off cause the fairing cracked - i've repaired it and it
    needs painting.Black obviously.

I have no idea. Let me consult my personal advisor

    Oi, Loz, do I want a 1987 NC24?
The important question is what is the vibration like?
    No MOT then.
Ha! Call that a cracked fairing. Bet you've never had an MOT advisory
for condition of fairings. Still one of my proudest moments.

check your schedule, but I'm 99% sure all CN FC and TPF&T policies
    come with EU-wide breakdown assistance.

CN prefer you to call them to let them know when/where you're going.

There isnt any really but if you need some I'll see what I can do.
No tax or MOT - I was going to fix the fork seals next week when I
have a week off and get it MOT'd , but then I'd want more for it......
