There is one long termer in Leeds, Stewart, who I will deal with.
Otherwise it's a waste of time.

I think it's fair to say lots of major retailers are the same. Good staff
(for the most part) shite attitude from the management.

Well yes and no. What I asked for when I went in was a piano which had full
midi function. Now the thing they sold me DID have the midi functions, but
it lacked one (it wouldn't send sustain pedal presses to anoutboard midi
    device).

I asked if it was a fault and they "said" they didn't know, but in truth,
they were lying. They DID know and proved it after a lang talk when the
droid happened to menton that the later series of these pianio's didn't send
this info to the outboard devices, although its predecessors did.

As they knew exactly what I wanted to do with the piano, they were wrong to
suggest that the new one would fit my needs. Anyway, their boss saw things
my way, but unfortunately, he's not based at my local shop so if I ever went
back, I'd still be dealing with twats.
I suspect they were reading the wrong tin:)
I think you're probably right. Well you're *definitely* right if WUN is and
    I believe he is.

The new Knox and Forcefiel stuff is every bit as good, if not better,
than the older KC2000 range, but a hell of a lot lighter and easier to
wear. I'm currenty using a Knox Ricochet 9 plate race fitting[1] BP,
    and it's wonderful.

[1]It has the waist strap 1 1/2 inches higher than the road version,
which makes it easier on the belly when riding full on sports bikes.

They were a pair of cunts anyway. What was really amusing about the whole
thing was the reaction of the mamager droid when I went back into the shop
after having had a nice long chat to his boss, who told me to take ANY piano
out of the shop, try it and if it didn't fit the bil, take it back.

I decided to buy a different one and then hit the sales dude with their
"Price Promise" which was splattered all over their web page.

I showed him a quote from a shop in Germany and when I showed the twat their
offer, he said "Yeah, but they're in Germany" (as if that made any
difference), but I countered that argument with a quick flourish and display
of an even better price from a shop in Burton-on-Trent, along with an "I
knew you were going to bring up the war" comment.

He was fucking trembling with rage, but he couldn't do a fucking thing after
getting the hard word off his gaffer. What a ****.

AND I got a nice 150 quid off their price by producing the quotes.

To be honest, 95% of the time my back protector ends up hanging on a
coat hanger in the wardrobe. The only time I consider wearing it is
when I wear my 1 peice leather, as there's bugger all decent
protection or armour on the back of it.

For "normal" riding in a standard leather or textile jacket, (rightly
    or not) I never bother.

Since about 1999 I've always had jackets where the back protector was
an integral part thereof. The earlier efforts weren't much more than a
1" thick pice of foam, but the Textile Dainese one I still have has a
proper armadillo-type one built-in. It's removeable, for sure, but the
only time I ever did that was when I was flying[1], as it made it
really difficult to fit in the overhead locker.

My later leathers were even more built-in with their protection, it
being mainly foam-based but with a 3-4" thickness on the back, of
several types of clever material that really obsorbs impacts. Good
job, really, as it worked out, although I sometimes wonder whether I'd
have been better or worse off had I been wearing the Dainese...

Yeah, I know. When i'm lying on the armco, i'll be rueing how well
    protected my coat hanger is.

I have a leather where the back protection is quite thin, and there's
no protection at all in the back of my HG jacket. However, i'm never
riding 10/10'ths when i'm wearing them, or i'm on one of the slower
    bikes.

I know this is no defence, but the jacket doesn't zip to the trousers
    in any case.

Does everyone really kit up every day thinking they are going to
    crash ?

If i'm going to be riding quick, e.g a trackday, or a hoon, I go for
the 1 piece and back protector, as especially in the former case,
there's every possibility of stacking it inadvertently.

That's any time you get on the bike then, surely? OK, this is you, not
me, so furry muff, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who doesn't
understand how you can be riding a bike and _not_ hooning.
I never believed I was going to crash, no matter how I was riding.

I tend to think that I *might* crash, or more likely get crashed into.

We always kit up fully - unless we're doing a very low-speed local
trundle around in hot climes. Generally there's no way one can keep to
a slow enough speed to guarantee avoidance of serious injury if one
    crashes.
