Janklow sentenced to 100 days in jail in wreck that killed motorcyclist

    FLANDREAU, S.D., 2:29 p.m. January 22 (AP)
Bill Janklow, who dominated South Dakota politics for three decades as
governor and then congressman, was sentenced to 100 days in jail
Thursday for an auto accident that killed a motorcyclist and ended
    Janklow's career in disgrace.

After 30 days behind bars, Janklow will be allowed to leave jail during
the day for up to 10 hours to perform community service. After he
completes his jail term, he will be on probation for three years, during
which he will not be allowed to drive.

He gets 100 days while his victim has been in the ground for months
now! In light of the fact that Janklow has demonstrated beyond any
reasonable doubt that he had no consideration for the safety of others
over a very long period of time and that a tragedy like what happened
was going to happen eventually, I think that the sentence was too
short by at least a factor of 10!

Depends on the outcome of upcoming elections, probably. If his buddies
are still in, then you're probably right. May happen sooner if it's a
close race and they need every vote.
I think that was part of the deal to get Nixon out without actually
holding the impeachment trial. The Democrats back then actually had
some sense of the seriousness of impeachment, unlike the Republicans
    of a more recent period.

After 30 days behind bars, Janklow will be allowed to leave jail during
Crikey! You could get a worse sentence for putting your terminally ill
cancer-ridden pet out of its misery.
Like that has ever stopped anyone.

    What a farce.

Motorcyclist's family sues Janklow over traffic accident death

By CARSON WALKER Associated Press Writer

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The family of a motorcyclist killed in a collision
with a car driven by Bill Janklow has filed a wrongful-death lawsuit
against the former South Dakota congressman.

    [snip]

The lawsuit contends Janklow drove "carelessly, negligently and
recklessly with conscious and unjustifiable disregard of a substantial
risk" when he ran a stop sign and drove into the path of a motorcycle
driven by Scott, 55, of Hardwick, Minn.

Scott's family seeks more than $50,000 in damages although the lawsuit
doesn't name a specific amount. The lawsuit was filed Friday in
Minneapolis on behalf of Scott's mother, two children and a sister.

Agreed...but I honestly didn't expect him to do any time at all.

A slap on the wrist like this is pretty close to the same thing.
Think of all of the people doing 10 years for having a little bit of
marijuana, there is definitely a double standard out there!

Fortunately the family is suing him, I hope that they get to move the
hearing outside of his power circle so that they can hurt him where it
really counts, and hopefully they clean him out!

Bay area motorcyclists should all be riding those small, white yappy
Bichon-Frises. Then, if the biker gets run down and the dog gets killed,
the cager will serve some time.

But nobody seems to see that killing a motorcyclist should bear a stiffer
penalty than killing a pet. Certainly the courts don't seem to see it.

Before we bikers assume the mantle of victimhood -

A few years ago in L.A. a teenage black girl went into a Korean owned
family-store and was confronted over shoplifting by the woman who owned
the store. Push came to shove (literally) and the woman pulled out a
handgun and shot the black girl ... in the BACK. There was a trial and
the woman (who claimed the gun went off accidentally) was given a
suspended sentence for manslaughter. After this, the girl's relatives
were interviewed and, as they expressed their grief, they mentioned that
someone in L.A. had served a month in jail for killing a dog.
