    Hi All
Anybody imported there own bike from Japan? I would like to import a new
Honda that's not available in Europe, all the parallel importers only import
s/h bikes and I want a 2004 model, anybody help.

    Thanks Phill

That's not true. I know a very short lady who bought a new VTR250[1] from a
parallel importer. Not sure where she got it from. A google search thhrows
    up this:

    http://www.ridersmotorcycles.co.uk/index.html

[1] very slow but nonetheless it looks like a proper bike and she can reach
    the ground, just :)

    #1 Why?
#2 You want a *grey* bike dealer not a parallel......
    #3 Try BAT Motorcycles

Why? A parallel at least means that the headlights will point in the
    right direction.

Granted, it might not have a parking light at the front and a really
picky MOT tester could pick up on it, but otherwise..

Yes, but he doesn't want a parallel import. Parallel imports are bikes
that *are* available in this country, but have been brought in by a
method other than through the official importer.

He wants a bike that's not officially available in this country, so he
either has to import it himself, *or* find a grey importer.
If it's a *proper* parallel, that won't be a problem.

(Mind, he's wrong about parallel importers only importing second-hand
    bikes.)

Really, Lesley, I'm disappointed in you. I thought you knew all this stuff?

    <pedant>
ITYF that a home-born Jap bike will have it's lights pointing the right way.
It's yer kph speedos that give grief.

This is because the Japanese drive on the left, yes?
Indeed. The Wing's got a kph speedo, and it's caused, let me see, oh
yes, no trouble whatsoever. Mind you, it's only had five MOTs so far.
Pedants are occasionally right, you know.

Because he wants a bike that's not normally imported. Parallels are
bikes that are normally imported, greys are bikes that are not.

The difference between parallels and greys you mean? No, I don't
(didn't) have a clue about them, despite the fact that I've got a Jap
    import.

Correct, the lights point the right way. The headlight cluster just
doesn't have a parking light in it, which is causing a problem atm.
Oddly enough, I never had any grief with the kph speedo during MOT time,
although I did replace it with an MPH one because I got fed up of trying
to work out how fast I was going, particularly in the lower limits.

I think you must be unlucky with this. I remember my 1986 FZR400 Jap
import had parking lights in the front. Green they were.

  14. I think Ben is right, and you are being unlucky... Claire's ZXR
is (apparently) okay. The race can was an issue, but the lights
    were fine...

Was an issue, in that you needed to fit a road legal, or in that you
found somewhere sympathetic. If the latter can you let me know where you
    went. Reply to is valid.

Probably. If you look into the headlight area, can you see a small bulb
for the parking light or not? [1] Just curious like, cos when I get the
time I'll be taking it elsewhere for it's MOT.

[1] I had a look at a UK spec bike last week, and you can see the
    parking light.

    Hi
So I guess no one has imported their own bike!, I'm after a spec lll
Honda CB400SF hyper V Tec, not a spec ll that everyone keeps telling me is
    the latest, "even BAT motorcycles"
If I lived in Japan I could buy a spec lll for £3300, the best I can get
here is a spec ll for £4700, so there's room to pay for some import duty
    etc.

    Regards Phill
(probably to be a spec ll owner)

  19. So DIY. And consider this - you will drop it, some things will wear out,
and you will need to have it serviced, including that lovely VTEC stuff.

    Have fun.

  20. Went to Cambridge Motorcycles (Chedders Lane), and they lent
me the spanners to put the legal can back on just before the
    test...
    Unfortuantely, not found anywhere. :-(
