As I was riding out of "The Commune" this morning, I was congratulating
myself on the excellent job I'd done of bleeding the brakes, pondering
that the 9R's gear linkage hadn't done the usual winter trick of seizing
up with crud, and thinking that I should do some preventative
    maintenance before it happened.

Get on to the main road, let's click it up into third... oh... arse...
wiggle gear lever down slightly, click it up, *that's* third... now for
fourth... ah, yes, I can see a pattern here, wiggle lever down slightly,
up, and click. And so the journey to work continued, with all gear
changes being planned well in advance.

Ho hum, looks like I'll be doing some belated gear linkage maintenance
    tonight.

Remind me not to think that it's a long time since I snapped a chain...

A quick google didn't bring anything up, so I think your time is due...

It'll be the pivot point at the footrest. A quick polish with
scotchbrite then some copperslip and the job's done.

    Yeah, I know.
Something like that, anyway. Took longer to get apart than I expected,
as someone had used half a tube of red Loctite on the footrest bolt, and
I couldn't be arsed to find the blowtorch.

Dead posh, it is, that pivot. Got a rubber seal on either end of it.
Quite surprised, I was. God Bless Kawasaki Heavy Industries.

I also noticed that the C-clip that holds the footrest pivot in place
was about to make a bid for freedom; that could have been interesting.
