Folks, some of you will be aware that I'm a staunch advocate of not running the donor engine when you're jumper-starting a vehicle with a flat battery. I reckon the surges and spikes can upset the donor's CDI, EMS, EFI etc.. but I came up with a new one today! Michelle's Kia's battery had collapsed (about 3.5 years is pretty good for a new Korean car) and I had to mount a rescue mission with the old Brumby but while the little Brumby battery is OK for a 300,000km-old OHV engine it couldn't drive the 16V Kia engine so in desperation I had gNatalie run the Brumby at 3000rpm while I tried to fire the Kia. End result? The Brumby fan belt broke apart under the load!! Lucky I trained gNatalie in the art of vehicle pushing all those years ago and we managed to all get home again.
