I suspect that you are being charitable here, Peter. ;-)
    It is pretty cringe-worthy.
    Exactly!

Personally, I can't imagine what pleasure it gives the likes of Clem and
Boxer to trade insults with George W Frost, but...if it makes them
    happy. <shrug>

Quite why George bothers, too, is hard for me to understand.

Certainly, anyone can post anything they want, the same as anyone can
say or do anything they want in a public place, however if you
transgress the written or unwritten rules of acceptable behaviour you
    will be censured.

Get your wobbly bits out in public and you will at the least get heckled
    at worse get arrested.

Dump inane moronic yankee emotionalism in ausmoto and you will get
resoundingly heckled. Aido has been around long enough to know that, so
presumably it was done to shit stir.

The problem is George, you fail to understand (like many Yanks fail to
also) the difference between "free speech" and social mores. Or to put
it another way "why you can't shout fire in a theatre and not expect
    penalty"(1).

Your inability or unwillingness to understand is the reason why you
constantly get jeered, and rightly so. Zebee's already told you how to
not look like the village idiot everytime you post, but you're not
interested in becoming part of this community, so don't whine when the
community resoundingly rejects you; its two sides of the same coin.

And for what it's worth, after having read the first line of the
original post it was utterly predictable what was going to happen next
    (with reference to your posts).

    JL
1 I can't recall who came up with the example of why there must be
limits to free speech, but it's a good one

I have no problem with people finding interesting things at different
times nd posting them here. It takes a moment to move on It's the
preparedness to repost here (as in post here something they read
elsewhere) any old piece of mindles pseudo-sentimental crap just because
it mentions motorcycles. At least Aido didn't try to make it look
    like he was the author.

I call these pieces of tripe "human powered viruses" because they rely
on unthinking dupes to relay them.

Here's a hint for Aido and anyone else who thinks passing on this stuff
is doing someone a favour. Anything that includes a message urging you
to repost it to as many people as possible:
    (a) should not be reposted, and
    (b) has probably already been reposted ad nauseam[1].

    Moike

[1] in cases such as this, "ad nauseam" means once.

Cameron, it is because I know which button to press

  13. Asw Aido said, he hadn't seen it before so thought it might be a nice gesture to post
it for all to see, not knowing that it had been seen thousands of times before and in
doing so, he got shit thrown at him from all directions, which I objected to and then
    all hell broke loose.

I can see all the rhetoric and bullshit in anything that comes from the US and also
from anyone who is in a good financial position or is just plain ignorant
and don't believe 99% of what they say

Never said I didn't want to become part of this community
posted a few things some years ago on this group and others, thinking that I might be
accepted, but knew that it would take time before that happened as it was a clique,
but I perservered with posts, till I started getting nasty comments etc, so I treat
them with the same disdain, contempt and rejection and this group is the one with so
many detractors, bullshit artists, know-it-alls, know nothings, boot lickers and
hangers on, compared to many of all the groups.
There are a few and I repeat only a few posters who haven't tried to belittle me in
any way, some have come in with helpful advice, while other have said nothing
and if you notice, I do not have anything nasty to say about them, aside from a small
jibe about which bike or their riding style they might or might not have
And you are quite entitled to have you bit of free speech
some thing you say I agree with and other not
but that is your perogative and mine to disagree

  14. Oliver Wendell Holmes. Interestingly, the limit he was proposing (he was
arguing by analogy) has since been overturned:

A great mind. Impressive guy. Thanks for looking it up.
Mmm ? I may be misunderstanding your point. Do you mean the analogy is
refuted or that the conclusion he then drew was overturned ?

I've not read the later case, but based on the text on the wikipedia
page that's not the case. The judgement in Shenck v US may have been
partially overturned but that doesn't kill the analogy. The wikipedia
page suggests that OWH drew too tight a line on the restriction, and a
later court ruled it to be "directed to and likely to incite imminent
    lawless action".

Doesn't seem to me that invalidates the analogy - the action incites
and leads to public disorder - a lawless action.

  16. I meant that the analogy had (and has) greater validity than the
conclusion he reached in Shenck. IOW I'm agreeing with everything you
    just said.

And I never knew until I looked that up that he was the guy who invented
the expression " ... clear and present danger ... ". Tom Clancy owes him
    a big debt.
