    Oh boy..

My gearbox layshaft came back the other day, from the 'expert'. The
people that had pressed the old cog onto the new shaft used copperslip
to help get it on there. Also, they marked the outside edge of some of
the gear teeth, meaning that there are burs on some of the teeth that
    need to be taken off.

I mean.. ffs. Copperslip. I thought you had to use anaerobic adhesive
and not a bloody lubricant, plus damage to the teeth.. some expert.

Needless to say, if nasty things happen when the thing is together and
running, I shall be taking it back.

Yeh, I know.. I can get a good 2nd hand gear cluster for £40, so if it
comes to that... I'll do it. Right now though, I don't really care that
much, as my gearbox could outlast me. Depends on the biopsy result
    though.

Been there, done that and don't like it. I'm crap with rebuilding gears
and only marginally better at being ill. Hope it swings your way.

Cheers geeza, maybe I'll suddenly get all the luck that's passed me by
recently. Anyway, the chap putting the gearbox together is going to
debur the gears, it's only on a very small part of the teeth and easily
removed with skilled fingers like his.

I watched him modify a spacer on the suspension, and was amazed at his
skill with a hacksaw and grinding wheel. No way could I have cut that
spacer so perfectly with a hacksaw. The solid bush kit slipped in just
right. :) Should get rid of that hinge in the middle feeling mid corner.

If you know a useful geezer like that, would you mind posting his
    contact details?

I've not got anything but good words to say about him over the years
I've been going there[1]. The shop he owns has a 4 or 5 week waiting
list[2] for the workshop, that shop is Bikes of Brighton, his name is
Paddy. The number is 01273607635 .

    [1] Since I was 18 and had my DT50MX
[2] I think.. you'll have to ask him about that.
