The British media are rubbish. Look at the recent news from Egypt, Al
Jezeera ran rings round them, then take the Aussie news channels
streaming over the web during their floods, again a case of balanced
and factual news. By contrast the BBC just seems to be fading into
mediocre rubbish spliced with random opinion, and Sky continually play
the one same headline over and over again, a fact that is only made
worse by having Kay Burley continually failing try to push everyone
she interviewed into a state of blubbering panic, whilst conveying
    faux outrage at every opportunity.

I was mildly amused by the 2 Z-list Professors wheeled out by the BBC News
to be "interviewed" by Huw Morris about the nuclear power stations. Both
were well past retirement age. One was wearing a bow tie, the other a
French beret. They looked like something from an amateur dramatics society.

  3. I've been impressed by NHK World over the past few days. Just the news,
    that's all.

  4. It's been a little less polished than usual but that's entirely
understandable with the fluid news situation. You can sometimes see the
English speaking broadcasters being spoken to in Japanese just off
camera as a new bit of paper is shoved on their news desk.

Normally there are other programmes interspersed between news broadcasts
covering all sorts of news and cultural items. I watch several of them
    - Japanese Kitchen [1], Tokyo Eye, Japan 7 Days, Cool Japan, Nihongo
Quick Lesson (Japanese language) and Shades of Japan. All useful in
terms of building up my knowledge of the country and its customs. It'll
all be useful for whenever I go back there.

[1] easy but delish recipes. I've tried Rafte (belly pork recipe) a
couple of times and it's really good even if the sake is a tad
    expensive!
