My old MK4 GTI would do a sumpfull between services, which was
(according to the dealer and the handbook), normal.

I think that applies to most of the range now - my Passat didn't demand
servicing until it had 25k miles on it.

Service intervals on my Mk4 Golf 1.9 SDi are every 30,000 miles. It
needs a full set of discs and pads every service.

    Not any more.

My car is the best looked after car on our fleet, not a dent or scratch
on it in 128,000 miles. Considering it spends most of its time on
motorways or in London it's done well. If I needed to buy a used car I'd
certainly look at a TDi Golf.

From what I've heard that doesn't take much. Former colleagues of
yours have left cars looking like Whinging Courier has slept in
    them...

Have you seen Carl's old car? It got broken into and I think the thieves
held a party on the roof prior to breaking in. Mine doesn't look like
it's done half the mileage it has, I still have all four wheeltrims in
good nick too. When you spend most of your day driving you don't want to
be sitting in a shitpit - my house isn't dirty, so why should my car be.

To my mind, giving back a company car in terrible condition is really
bad manners. When we get new ones mine will be thoroughly cleaned inside
    and out the day before.

There's no excuse for having a shed of a company car - not when you can
    charge cleaning to your expenses.

Nah, the shed isn't there at the moment. It'll be distinctly
    un-shed-like when it returns.

Both the companies I've worked for and had company cars have explicitly
    prohibited this.

I've still kept my company cars in good condition, apart from crashing
them and blowing them up, of course.

We can't, but that's still no excuse for having a shitpit of a car. I
use the car as my own, and if it were mine it would be just as clean, so
I don't have a problem with cleaning it or paying for someone else to
    clean it.

I heard about that; rather a different issue to what I can only
    describe as wilful neglect.
