    Hi all,

    I have a 91 zzr250 and i have found that i can hear like a tick tick
sound when im riding and it gets lowder the faster i go. is this normal
or do i have some problems? a mate said it could be sticky lifters.

    any help would be great

I had a tick tick sound happening till I got the cam chain tensioner
adjusted (I think that's what it's called). It was especially
noticeable when idling, but it was there all the time - didn't notice
it getting louder with speed, though, so it might've been something
completely different from your 'tick tick'...

IMNSHO, the ZZR 250 sound bloody terrible at idle and then just gets worse.

If it is a new noise, I'd be concerned. Simply remedies are along the lines
    of:-
    New oil and filter
Good hard run (once warmed up, obviously)
Checking chain tension (you don't actually say if the noise is idle or slow
    riding)
    Check wheel bearings
Brake calipers and other things that have things pass through, or rotate
    faster as road speed increases.

Check the exhaust is tight where it bolts to the cylinder head, that can
    sometimes create a ticking sound.
Had a ticking sound on my FJ1200 and one of the pipes was loose.

I had a '94 GPX250 with a similar symptom. After checking the valve
clearances, replacing the camchain tensioner, and replacing the head
all failed to cure the problem, I sold it.

  9. If it's there at idle, then it's not wheels or primary drive chain. If
it's not there at idle, but only present when moving, suspect wheel
bearings or the chain. If it changes with engine speed, suspect the cam
chain tension: the chain may have stretched beyond the ability of the
tensioner to compensate. If it only changes with bike speed, not engine
speed, and it's not the wheels or chain, get a mate to run alongside and
see if you can pinpoint *where* the noise is coming from.
