I need to get a 3000 mile service done, and am wondering if anyone can
recommend any places in the Palo Alto area ? Other than Redwood City
Kawasaki, who left me extremely underwhelmed last time I took the bike
    there.

    thanks

I know it's not on the peninsula, but I'll ride from near Valley Fair
to Fremont Cycle Center for Kawi stuff. Bike World in Sunnyvale is
barely adequate, and I'd avoid GP Motorsports like the plague.

    Hope that helps.

You don't have to go to a dealer to have the service done to keep your
    warrenty valid.
I would suggest Hare Racing In Mtn View.

  4. Thanks... I ride quite a ways out of the Bay Area to have my Ninjas
serviced. What is the deal with the person who said Bike World was
'barely adequate'? I only used them for a tire change once, but I was
thankful they didn't overcharge me, or give me static about working on
a bike over a decade old (yeah, I had that happen once, for a _tire
    change_).

I had my bike in there after I crumped it, back in 2000. I felt like I
was being "tolerated", rather than as a customer worth valuing. I've
been in there a few times since, and that impression hasn't changed.
I got an estimate and had them do the work, but I always had to call
to see what the status was -- three times they missed their estimated
completion date, and didn't call me to say what had gone on. I had to
call them (a few days after the "it'll definitely be done by <x>" date).

Perhaps it's just a style thing, but I really don't like having to chase
someone down to learn about delays like that.

Fremont's been good to me. When they had unexpected delays getting
parts, I was notified immediately and given the opportunity to say
"leave the old one and call when it comes in". And they did.
