Keeping A Scooter Safe

    Hi there,

I'd really like to get a scooter in order to get too and from work. My
problem is I live in a really s****y area and if I leave it outside it's
either going to get pinched, burnt or generally treat like shit by some
    little b*****d.

I've phoned the local council (where I live) too see if I can keep it
inside but I doubt I'll be allowed. I don't know anyone who lives
locally who could look after it for me.

I'm just hoping someone has some words of wisdom as a scooter would make
    my life much easier.

    Thanks

  2. You've made your life much harder by phoning the council. I would've put
the bike indoors anyway and worry about what I was going to say
afterwards when the house burnt down.

    Heh.

Well I've awkward neighbours so if I get the OK of the council I can
tell them to be quiet :)

  5. Good luck then. Storing petrol indoors is a big no no. I'm not even
allowed a paraffin heater in here.

Phone the local council again and ask about garages to rent in your area.

I believe they're normally fairly cheap and it would solve your problems
    straight away.

If you do end up having to keep your scoot outside then get a cover for it
    at the very least.

Excellent! I really liked that, I don't know if I should have since I have
a PX200 in mid resto at the mo. As for scoot security, get a huge **** off
length of chain from B&Q and a whacking great padlock and put it round the
middle of the runner boards and something solid. Get an alarm and a cover.
If you can, hide it. I hide my bike (yes, it is an XJ600 before anyone says
anything different) in my garden. Most folks don't know it's there.

    Get a bike.

In general thieving fucking scrotes tend to nick small capacity
lightweight machines that can be ridden over the local dump for a few
hours and then torched. If you get something that is not attractive to
them in terms of the use they will put it to then it is unlikely to get
    nicked.

Example, if I go to Pitsea on my bindit I can leave the keys in it and
it will still be there when I come back. The pacemaker on the other
hand would go before the engine had stopped ticking, even if it had an
    armed guard.

A chain, lock and cover sound good but there's nothing really I can
    chain it to.

I think they're fairly expensive and very in demand. But it's an idea
and I'll check it out. Thanks.

That's not good. If you can't chain it to something or hide it, it will be
lifted into a van and never be seen again. The only way to avoid it would
be to buy something REALLY untrendy and it kind of defeats the purpose.
You'd end up on a Honda Melody. Come to think of it, the little bastards
would still nick one of them.

  13. Get a ground anchor. As long as the hole you dig for it will be on your
property there shouldn't be a problem. Even if you *do* call the
    council.

Perhaps loiter around the Council-owned garages and pounce on someone with a
small car and offer to contribute to their garage rental costs in exchange
for scooter-space? (Assuming they issue 2 keys or a copy can be cut).

    What's keeping you?

As for scoot security, get a huge **** off
Yes, and preferably something too tall for two big burly blokes to lift it
    up over!
