Kidderminster to London on a 125

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by The Older Gentleman, Nov 5, 2008.

  1. This weekend I'm collecting the CB125RS I won on Fleabay from Boxerboy,
who's had it stashed in his garage. For which much thanks.

I'm trundling up with him to Cookley, where he lives, on Saturday,
stopping over, and then riding down on Sunday.

It's about 155 miles. Plan is to m-way it to just south of Brum, then
A40 (because m-way all the way will drive me nuts), and pick up the M40
again at High Wycombe, before trundling round the M25 to the A30 and
then going through Hampton Court to home.

Prace bets now: how long will it take? Bear in mind a CB125RS can
happily maintain 60 on the flat. I'm reckoning three and a half hours. A
pint or a drink in a French bar or summat for whoever gets the closest
    time.

A38 from Kiddie to Worcester, A44 to Oxford then A/M40 is a better plan,
    no?
144 miles, about the same distance as the M42/M40/M25 route.
3.75 hours with a third of the journey on the back of a breakdown truck

Given you've got access to a trailer, why not just trailer it back with the
    Primula???

Get him to take you to the 'Crooked House' (Glynne Arms) pub at Himley
    if he hasn't already.

Remembrance Sunday, so you may need to factor in stopping for the
    'silence' ;-)

    3 Hours, 49 minutes and 23 seconds.

The fuel to do that will cost more than the bike's worth....

  7. I doubt traffic will be a problem, you'll either be being passed on the
motorway, or filtering everywhere else it's stood, so I reckon three
    hours 20 minutes.

Are you allowed on a motorway on a 125? Or is it under 125? When I was a
youth they had big signs on the slip roads telling you what you couldn't
    take on a motorway.

Anything 49cc or under (!), and nothing on L-plates / provisional licence.

As is your sanity - I did quite a few trips on small bikes when I was
younger, and it's no fun really.

With a mate... plodding about, a stop here, a stop there... yes, I did all
that and on mopeds too - more fun.

On your own, on a long slog like that, almost certainly wanting to get the
job over and done with rather than plodding along in your own time and
having the odd stop here and there?

    Not so fun.

Especially at this time of year.

About 4 hours, not counting stops. A rolling average of 40mph. You can buy
me a pint at the beer hut in Loh.

    Wuss!

I did Swansea to Manchester and back, in December / January, on a GP100
on L-plates. With my old cycling saddle backs pressed into use as
motorcycle panniers, and a FOAD kit back bungeed to the pillion seat.

Yadda yadda... I did all that kind of shit... when I *had* to, and was a bit
younger and therefore less likely to creak in the morning after a long cold
    day on the bike.

  19. I've done some more recently. It is fun, if you set about it properly
(not too much luggage, avoid motorways, etc).

A40 is about 40 miles south of Kidderminster, you going to use the M5 to
get to it? We need to be told!
    3h 25m plus one stop, so 3h 40m total.
